Position Title & Summary
Job Title: Dispatch Lead
Reports To: Operations Manager
The Dispatch Lead is a senior operational role responsible for overseeing day-to-day dispatch activities, guiding the coordination team, and serving as the primary point of escalation for complex freight and service issues. This role blends hands-on dispatch expertise with team leadership, ensuring operations run smoothly, customers are served at the highest level, and Bestway’s standards of compliance and excellence are consistently upheld.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and lead daily dispatch operations, ensuring all job orders, routes, and schedules are executed efficiently and on time.
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for dispatch coordinators, resolving complex freight, customer, and operational issues in real time.
- Mentor and train dispatch coordinators, providing guidance on best practices, system usage, and customer service standards.
- Monitor team workload and redistribute tasks as needed to maintain operational flow and meet service commitments.
- Create and review job orders within Bestway’s Local Delivery Transport System (LDTS), ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate air-export documentation and ensure all required paperwork is compliant, complete, and submitted on schedule.
- Manage and oversee shared operational inboxes, ensuring all requests are routed, handled, and resolved efficiently.
- Communicate proactively with customers, airline partners, warehouses, and internal teams regarding shipment status, exceptions, and escalations.
- Provide rate quotes to customers in alignment with company pricing guidelines and service capabilities.
- Maintain accurate, real-time shipment tracking and exception management across all active movements.
- Schedule and confirm appointments with airlines, warehouses, and freight partners to support freight movement.
- Collaborate with accounting on billing reconciliation, delivery paperwork, and supporting documentation.
- Enforce and model compliance with TSA, airport, and internal security procedures across the dispatch team.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend process improvements to the Operations Manager.
- Assist with other senior operational duties as assigned to support overall team and customer success.

Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in trucking, dispatch, freight forwarding, or logistics operations
- Prior supervisory or lead experience in a dispatch or logistics environment preferred
- Strong familiarity with the Chicago / O’Hare regional freight environment and airport-related operations
- Proficient in LDTS or similar dispatch/TMS platforms, email, Google Docs/Sheets, and general computer systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced setting
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Eligibility to comply with TSA and airport security standards
Work Environment & Schedule
- On-site operations office environment supporting airport- and time-sensitive freight
- Fast-paced, service-driven environment with frequent communication, escalations, and task switching
- Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–6:00 PM with a lunch break
- Potential for extended hours during high-volume periods or to support team coverage needs
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
Pay: $50,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
