Description & Responsibilities
- Work alongside a co-manager to effectively manage all drivers and the fleet of trucks
- Prepare a daily schedule and coordinate efficient deliveries by applying knowledge of customer schedules, peak delivery times and alternate routes.
- Understand service area(s) to dispatch sufficient coverage and knowledge of delivery vehicle operation capacity to ensure delivery schedules are met.
- Apply knowledge of all driver schedules as well as subordinate skills and abilities for dispatched duty.
- Interpret, understand and ensure adherence to applicable DOT regulations.
- Assure that all jobs are entered correctly into Scrap Runner and jobs are assigned to drivers in a timely fashion
- Maintains/ Operates communication equipment efficiently to properly communicate with drivers
- Answers multi-line telephone and maintains a professional office environment and professional relations with customers and other employees
- Informs customer of their service status according to delivery schedules as needed.
- Maintains current industry knowledge through publications and legislation, and shares pertinent information with personnel as appropriate.
- Reviews documentation submitted by drivers each day to ensure pre-trip inspections are properly completed and reimbursements are made.
- Resolves operational and delivery problems that arise.
- Develops and maintains an effective organization through the selection, training, compensation, motivation, termination, and review of delivery personnel.
- Provides guidance and direction to employees to assist in their professional development.
- Deliver excellent customer service to each of our clientele
- Review time, attendance, and trips to ensure drivers are maintaining a good schedule and working appropriately
- Class A CDL is a plus, but it is not required.
- All other duties as assignment by Management
Physical Demands
- Responsibilities primarily performed by standing / walking 20% of the time
- Sitting is required for the remaining 80% of the time
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 pounds
- Normal range of vision, depth perception and hearing is needed
- Ability to bend, stoop and reach above the shoulders is required
- The ability to work in both extreme heat and cold weather conditions is required
Hours of Availability
This position is primarily scheduled Monday-Friday during standard operating hours. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required to address last-minute scheduling changes.
