Dispatcher

Job Summary:

Otter Express is seeking a dedicated Dispatcher to coordinate and oversee daily transit operations, ensuring timely and reliable service. This role involves managing communications with drivers and clients, monitoring system performance, and maintaining accurate operational records. The Dispatcher will play a vital role in supporting the efficiency and dependability of our transit services while fostering a positive and professional environment.

Key Functions and Duties Performed by the Dispatcher:

  • Operational Coordination
  • Coordinate daily route operations to ensure timely and efficient service delivery, adhering to established procedures and standards.
  • Monitor daily system performance. Participate in performance analyses and reviews to enhance operational readiness.
  • May assign trips to drivers strategically to balance workload and optimize route efficiency.
  • Communication and Interaction
  • Communicate effectively with drivers and clients to address and resolve service-related issues promptly.
  • Take client calls and relay issues to drivers and the Dispatch Manager as needed.
  • Monitor radio and telephone communications to oversee on-road service quality and address operational concerns.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of driver sign-in and sign-out times, ensuring compliance with scheduling requirements.
  • Document any delays or disruptions in route schedules and communicate findings to the Dispatch Manager.
  • Employee and Customer Relations
  • Foster a positive work environment by delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Address client concerns promptly to ensure high-quality service experiences.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to maintain composure under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to providing excellent service to both internal teams and the community.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and polite phone manner.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year of previous Dispatcher experience OR  2 years of Customer Service experience.
  • Experience with transit dispatch software.
  • Knowledge of the service area is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

The Dispatcher must be able to work effectively in an office environment. Physical demands include being able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The Dispatcher must also be able to clearly see and interpret information on screens and documents, as well as hear and understand communications over the phone or radio. Clear verbal communication is also essential to ensure accurate information exchange and effective coordination of transit operations.

Pay: $20.24 - $23.00 per hour
