NEMT Dispatcher Job Description
Position Title: NEMT Dispatcher

Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable, organized, and detail-oriented NEMT Dispatcher to coordinate daily transportation operations for a non-emergency medical transportation company. The Dispatcher is responsible for scheduling trips, communicating with drivers and healthcare facilities, monitoring vehicle activity, and ensuring safe, timely, and efficient transportation services for clients.
The ideal candidate will have prior dispatch experience in transportation, logistics, EMS, or NEMT operations and must be comfortable using dispatching and routing software.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and dispatch drivers for daily NEMT trips
- Coordinate transportation requests from healthcare facilities, brokers, hospitals, and clients
- Utilize dispatching software to optimize routes and maximize efficiency. Preferred experience with NEMT specific software such as RouteGini, RoutingBox, MediRoutes, Bambi, WellRyde.
- Monitor real-time trip status and communicate updates to drivers and customers
- Maintain accurate trip documentation and dispatch records
- Verify trip information, pickup/drop-off times, and client needs
- Handle schedule changes, cancellations, delays, and emergencies professionally
- Communicate effectively with drivers regarding assignments, incidents, and service issues
- Ensure compliance with company policies, HIPAA standards, and transportation regulations
- Assist with driver support, customer service inquiries, and operational problem-solving
- Monitor vehicle locations and trip performance using GPS/AVL systems
- Work collaboratively with management to improve operational efficiency and service quality
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous dispatching experience required; NEMT, EMS, transportation, or logistics experience preferred
- Experience using dispatch software required
- Strong computer and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
- Knowledge of local geography and route planning
- Familiarity with Medicaid transportation operations is a plus
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
Preferred Skills
- Experience with GPS tracking and AVL systems
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible schedule availability, including evenings or weekends if needed
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work
- Ability to communicate clearly via phone and radio
- Occasional lifting of office materials up to 20 lbs.
