Display Designer/ Retail Merchandiser

SALES ASSOCIATE POSITION

We are a small retail business located in the historic district looking for a Retail Merchandiser to add to our team. Searching for a candidate who is passionate about visual design, home decor, and creating retail displays. Candidate should be able to create stunning displays that create a fun shoppable experience. In addition to merchandising, candidates must be able to provide excellent customer service. Candidates with strong communication skills who can make customers feel welcome in our store will stand out. You will greet customers, answer customer questions and price & package product, seasonally change out the window displays and create displays. A positive attitude and a desire to learn will make you successful in this role.

Responsibilities

• Design and build eye-catching product displays that tell a story and inspire our customers
• Incorporate kitchenware, specialty foods, and home decor into cohesive seasonal and themed displays
• Regularly refresh store layout and front-facing presentations to reflect new arrivals and promotions
• Decorate and maintain retail window displays that reflect our store’s charm and brand identity
• Collaborate with store managers on creative planning for holidays, events, and retail merchandising strategies
• Maintain an organized, clean, and aesthetically pleasing sales floor
• Greet and direct customers
• Answer customers’ questions about specific products/services
• Sample products to customers
• Cross-sell products
• Ensure racks & shelves are fully stocked
• Light cleaning
• Manage returns of merchandise
• Inform customers about discounts and special offers
• Provide customer feedback to the Store Manager
• Stay up-to-date with new products/services

Skills

• A strong eye for design, detail, and visual storytelling
• Experience in visual merchandising, retail displays, or interior decorating (preferred but not required)
• Creativity and a hands-on approach to transforming spaces
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Understanding of the retail sales process
• Knowledge of inventory stocking procedures
• Basic math skills
• Excellent communication skills, capable of building trusting relationships
• Ability to perform in fast-paced environments
• Flexibility to work various shifts
• Proven work experience as a Retail Sales Representative, Sales Associate or similar role is a bonus
• Flexibility with schedule, including occasional weekends or evenings during peak seasons

About Us: Mississippi Marketplace is searching for candidates 18 years of age or older, looking for part time work including weekends. We are a small, family operated business, who employ local talent as part of our team. Mississippi Marketplace is an old-time general store, stocking several food products, kitchen gadgets & home décor. Our staff is a talented mixture of creative types & analytical types who work well together creating a friendly & fun environment.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 30 per week
