POSITION SUMMARY:

The Distribution Designer/Distribution Engineer designs electric services to existing and new/prospective members in order to meet their electrical service requirements. Designs an electrical distribution system that ensures reliability of service in an economical and environmentally acceptable manner that meets RUS requirements, permit procedures, the National Electrical Safety Code and the Cooperative’s policies. Prepares and maintains engineering records and maps that control inventory, direct crews and determines billing

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Design, coordinate, and stake electrical layouts for residential, commercial, industrial, and rural services, including overhead and underground system improvements.
  • Inspects distribution systems for breakage, deterioration or compliance with National Electrical Safety Code and determines corrective action needed to maintain safe electric facilities. Provides and develops Staking Sheets for Reject Poles and other damaged equipment.
  • Secures all permits, easements and tree trimming permission required for construction.
  • Represent MVEC in pre-construction meetings with local, state, and federal agencies; ensure cooperative interests and safety standards are met.
  • Monitors construction activities and makes necessary adjustments to address safety issues or changing conditions, ensuring all work complies with RUS, NESC, NEC, and MVEC Standards.
  • Provide support during storm restoration.
  • Process power quality reports and prepare service orders to maintain system reliability.
  • Advise on project scheduling, planning, material requirements, and specification updates; support annual Schedule of Charges review (Engineer).

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License with good driving record - required
  • Strong technical, communication, and customer service skills- required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computerized outage programs - required
  • Ability to operate a transit, GPS and other survey equipment - preferred
  • Familiar with Federal, State and Local ordinances and permits affecting the Cooperative – preferred
  • Design experience of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems – preferred
  • Extensive working knowledge of RUS Construction specifications, the National Electrical Safety Code, construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution systems. – preferred
  • Knowledge of right-of-way's, easements and understanding legal description of properties. - preferred

Additional Qualifications:

Distribution Designer:

  • Vocational School or College with a diploma in Electrical Technology or related field – required
  • Basic understanding of electrical concepts - required

Distribution Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering - required
  • Strong working understanding of Electrical componentry – preferred

Safety Class:

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring pre-employment drug screening and subject to random drug screening during employment. Both screenings include cannabis and hemp-derived products.


Pay and Benefits:

Distribution Designer Starting Pay: $40.163 – 44.180/hr

Distribution Engineer Starting Pay: $91,882 – 101,071 annually

Position and pay will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and education.
