Description:
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
To ensure continuous operation of water distribution and delivery system by performing basic maintenance duties as required. Support and implement all policies outlined in employee handbook.
LEADERSHIP DUTIES
-
Responsible for duties as assigned by the Distribution Manager.

Directs crew members to complete tasks within established guidelines and timeframe
-
Responsible for input of monthly HR logs for respective crew members
-
Performs duties with general direction with broad latitude in pathing job tasks
-
Supports and implements all company safety policies and procedures
-
Conforms to guidelines formulated under OSHA, Workman’s Compensation, and company’s insurance carrier as well as State and Federal regulators.

Maintains a safety attitude among employees
-
Check & monitor all confined space entries
-
Make decisions on sloping, shoring, and benching on all trenches
-
Assists in building positive, productive employee relations.

Appropriately encourages employee suggestions and constructive criticism
-
Maintains positive, productive customer relations/communications
-

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-
Ensure Repair of water line leaks/breaks – main and service
-
Ensure Repair of sewer line leaks/breaks – main and service
-
Prevent water contamination during line breaks, proper readings & documentation
-
Ensure Repair or replacement of broken meter boxes, lids, meters, meter bottoms, & meter yokes
-
Ensure Repair, replacement, or installation of both 2- and 3-way fire hydrants on system
-
Ensure Repair/installation of flushing hydrants on system
-
Ensure proper installation of new waterlines
-
Ensure proper Move, kill, raise and/or lower ¾” to 1” water taps
-
Ensure Installation of new water taps ¾” to 2”
-
Ensure Repair, replacement and/or installation of both above & underground blow-offs ¾”, 1”, 2”
-
Locate, spot valves, main lines, service lines, meters & sewer lines
-
Install, repair or change-out valves, air relief valves, caps, tees, clamps, sleeves, saddles
-
Replace existing service liens by cable pull or directional bore
-
Collect water samples
-
Flush water lines and hydrants and complete appropriate paperwork
-
Repair yards when applicable due to water line installation or repair
-
Removal of any excess spoil
-
Patch roads or driveways due to repairs
-
Repair/rebuild tapping machines
-
Thaw frozen water lines
-
Advanced operation of heavy equipment
-
General maintenance on equipment, vehicles & tools
-
GPS Survey assets during repair of existing facilities and installation of new facilities
-
Emergency duty or on call responsibility
-
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: specialized, technical, or practical knowledge, skills, experience, or abilities needed to perform the job. (degrees, certificates, licenses, or other bona fide job qualifications.)
A. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
-
Must meet residential policy requirements a 45-minute response time to Consolidated Utility District’s main office and maintain that residency status as a condition of their employment.
- Minimum three years’ experience with District
B. KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
-
High school diploma or GED
-
State of TN Water Distribution System Operator Grade II Certificate of Competency
-
Valid Class “A” CDL with airbrakes and safe driving record
-
Excellent familiarity with District distribution system facilities’ locations and operational logic
-
Excellent knowledge of Rutherford County
-
Leadership training/experience
C. SKILLS REQUIRED:
-
Certified Forklift Operator
-
Trench Competent Person Certification
-
Operate a wide range of equipment and hand and air tools
-
Proficient tool, equipment, and vehicle maintenance
-
Advanced Computer Skill Level
-
Ability to read and understand construction plans

Work is primarily performed in a field setting with exposure to loud noise, outside elements, dust, dirt, grease, etc.
