Position Summary:
The successful individual will serve as a Sponsored Teacher, working in close collaboration with a mentor teacher to develop professional instructional skills while actively pursuing full teacher certification. This role is designed for educators who are currently enrolled in, or entering, a teacher preparation program. The Sponsored Teacher will contribute to a dynamic school team, assisting in the enhancement of educational programs and utilizing multiple forms of assessment to track student progress. Key Responsibilities:

Collaborative Practice: Collaborate with a mentor teacher to plan, deliver, and reflect on classroom instruction.

Professional Development: Maintain active enrollment and successful progress in education coursework through UAF.

Certification Tracking: Ensure all required documentation and progress reporting is submitted to the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) to maintain apprenticeship standing.

Student Engagement: Support a diverse student population by implementing varied teaching strategies and maintaining a positive learning environment.
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's or Master's Degree are required for Apprentice Teacher applicants(in any field, provided it meets UAF admission criteria).

All other Distrit Sponsored Teacher applicants will require individual educational criteria evaluated on a case by case basis.

Enrollment in a qualifying teacher certification program (Apprentice Teachers will enroll in the University of Alaska Fairbanks).

Currently Hold an Active Alaska Teaching License or have the ability to to obtain a District Sponsored License.

Must be flexible and able to work with colleagues in multiple instructional settings.

Excellent interpersonal skills that promote positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.

(For Apprentice Teachers) Willingness to commit 2 years after the completion of the Apprenticeship program to employment at the Juneau School District.
Preferred Requirements:

Previous experience working with school-aged children in a coaching, tutoring, or support role.

Demonstrated knowledge of current educational research and diverse teaching strategies.

Strong behavior management skills and an appreciation for parental involvement in the educational process.
Compensation:
Salary is dependent on experience and current educational level. The Juneau School District offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and membership in the Alaska Teachers Retirement System (TRS).
