Job Summary
The Pain Management Physician is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients suffering from acute and chronic pain conditions. This specialist provides comprehensive assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, performs interventional pain procedures, and works collaboratively with the clinical team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. The physician ensures compliance with all regulatory standards, maintains accurate documentation, and leads the clinical direction of the practice to promote optimal patient outcomes.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Evaluation & Diagnosis

  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including histories, physical examinations, and pain assessments.
  • Diagnose acute and chronic pain disorders related to musculoskeletal, neurologic, spinal, and systemic conditions.
  • Order, interpret, and correlate diagnostic testing including MRIs, CT scans, X-rays, EMGs, and laboratory studies.
  • Develop accurate diagnoses and determine appropriate interventional or non-interventional treatment plans.

Treatment Planning & Management

  • Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to patient needs and clinical findings.
  • Manage patients using multimodal approaches including medications, injections, physical therapy, and lifestyle interventions.
  • Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, in compliance with state laws, DEA regulations, and clinic protocols.
  • Provide opioid-risk assessment, medication monitoring, and patient counseling on safe medication use.

Interventional Pain Procedures

  • Perform a wide range of pain management procedures, such as:
  • Epidural steroid injections
  • Trigger point injections
  • Joint injections (knee, hip, shoulder, SI joint, etc.)
  • Nerve blocks (medial branch, occipital, peripheral nerve, etc.)
  • Facet injections
  • Radiofrequency ablations
  • Sympathetic blocks and other advanced procedures
  • Ensure proper sterile technique, patient safety, and accurate post-procedure documentation.
  • Review post-procedure outcomes and adjust treatment plans accordingly.

Patient Education & Communication

  • Educate patients about diagnoses, treatment options, procedures, risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Provide empathetic, clear communication to establish trust and support patient engagement.
  • Counsel patients on lifestyle modifications, pain-coping strategies, and adherence to treatment plans.

Collaboration & Clinic Leadership

  • Work collaboratively with Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Medical Assistants, and administrative staff.
  • Lead and support the clinical team to ensure efficient workflow, high patient satisfaction, and high-quality care.
  • Provide guidance to staff regarding clinical protocols, proper documentation, and patient triage.
  • Participate in staff meetings, policy development, and quality-improvement initiatives.

Documentation, Billing & Compliance

  • Complete timely and accurate EMR documentation for all patient encounters and procedures.
  • Ensure documentation supports medical necessity, proper coding, and insurance compliance.
  • Review and sign off on NP/PA charts as required.
  • Maintain full compliance with federal, state, and DEA regulations, including controlled substance monitoring, PDMP checks, and opioid agreements.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines at all times.

Professional Development & Standards

  • Maintain active medical license, board certification, DEA registration, and continuing medical education (CME).
  • Stay up to date with emerging treatments, techniques, and advances in pain management.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, ethical conduct, and commitment to patient safety.
  • Represent the clinic in a positive and professional manner to patients, referring providers, and the community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Pain Medicine, Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, or Neurology.
  • Current state medical license and DEA license.
  • Interventional pain management training or fellowship preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of musculoskeletal, neurologic, and interventional pain procedures.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with high patient volume.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
