About Us:

Unity Ice Academy is a fast-growing nonprofit redefining access and representation in figure skating. Our work centers around powerful, real stories of youth, resilience, and community. We are developing a documentary-style series capturing this journey with the intention of building a high-quality project with strong storytelling and future distribution potential.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Filmmaking Intern to lead the production and editing of a documentary series. This role is ideal for a serious film student looking to take ownership of a meaningful, cinematic project that goes beyond typical student work.

You will be responsible for shaping the visual storytelling from initial capture through final edit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on-site filming during practices, events, and summer camp
  • Capture high-quality interviews and verité-style footage
  • Help develop narrative arcs, character stories, and overall structure
  • Manage and organize all footage and production assets
  • Fully edit episodes and supporting content from start to finish
  • Create trailers, teasers, and social cuts
  • Collaborate directly on creative direction and storytelling vision

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a top film or media program (USC, UCLA, Chapman, or similar preferred) or equivalent high-level experience
  • Strong cinematography and editing skills (Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci, etc.)
  • Ability to lead a project from concept through final delivery
  • Strong eye for storytelling, pacing, and emotional narrative
  • Must have access to professional-level camera and audio equipment (or school-issued gear)
  • Self-directed, reliable, and able to work in a fast-moving environment

Bonus:

  • You may bring a small production team (DP, additional shooters, editors) and operate as a unit if desired
