GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under direct supervision of the Executive Director of Education, coordinates the implementation of the education program in areas of scholarship, student support services, and transition programs. Cultivate and maintain relationships with colleges/universities; tribally controlled schools; public schools; private schools; assist with proposal and grant writing. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Facilitates the continuing development of the Tribal Scholarship Program. Administers the program according to guidelines approved by the Board of Education.
- Visits K-12 schools, colleges, universities, or trade schools to provide financial counseling and information to students.
- Assists students in applying for tribal scholarships and other financial aid.
- Monitors and meets regularly with the students, reviews academic progress and assists those who are having academic or financial aid problems; counsels' students on maintaining eligibility requirements of the program.
- Reviews financial aid and scholarship applications for completeness and eligibility requirements. Convenes Board meeting for the purpose of approving scholarships.
- Assists schools in providing resources for a smooth transition for students leaving one school system and entering a new school system (i.e. head start to elementary; elementary to mid school; mid school to high school; high school to college or trade school; private or tribal school to public school)
- Coordinates payments among various institutions.
- Maintains positive relations with community members and schools by providing program information and assisting in planning and coordinating special activities and education events.
- Monitors recipient student records and all documentation; creates and maintains case files on all students; generates reports as required.
- Assists all programs with securing additional funding and grant monies for continuation and expansion of program services with grant and proposal writing.
- Acts as an advocate for students in the public-school system.
- Coordinates and manages the K-12 Tutoring Program.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research; attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; and conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS and CERTIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of traditional form of government and pueblo customs and traditions.
- Knowledge of the functions and structure of Ohkay Owingeh.
- Knowledge of records management procedures.
- Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
- Knowledge in financial aid programs such as scholarships grants and loans.
- Knowledge of tribal, federal and state educational rules and regulations that concern financial aid and scholarship eligibility requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English both verbally and in writing.

MINIMUM OUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business, Counseling, or related field plus five years experience working in the field of education;
- Experience with education services and student rights; grant writing experience; advanced computer skills including database management required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current valid New Mexico Driver's License.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation. Must be willing to sign a confidentiality statement upon hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and taste or smell. The employee occasionally is required to stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIROMENT:
Work is generally performed in an office or classroom setting with a moderate noise level. Evening, weekend, and/or holiday work will be required. Travel is required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
