●Job Title: Dog Nanny - 6 month Maternity Leave
● Location: Keswick, VA
Schedule: FLEXIBLE Monday–Friday 8 AM - 6 PM WINDOW (30-40 hours/week)
● Additional Coverage: Occasional weekend, evening, overnights, and vacation coverage as needed
● Compensation: DOE
About the Role: This is an 6-month maternity coverage position with the possibility of becoming permanent.
We are seeking a reliable, experienced, and professional Dog Nanny to care for four Newfoundlands. This weekday role focuses on attentive daily care, structured exercise, grooming maintenance, and proactive health oversight within a private farm setting. This position is in addition to existing staff who are cross-training with the current dog nanny to ensure a smooth and seamless transition of care and work flow.
Newfoundlands are large, gentle, intelligent dogs requiring consistent supervision, physical activity, coat maintenance, and affection. The ideal candidate is confident handling giant breeds and experienced managing multiple large dogs at once.
THIS JOB IS NOT JUST BEING WITH DOGS - IT IS SUPPORTING THEIR ENVIRONMENT WHICH MAKES IT A PHYSICAL AND ON YOUR FEET JOB DOING ALL CHORES RELATED TO DOGS AND THEIR CARE. EG. UNPACKING DOG FOOD, DOING LAUNDRY : HOUSEHOLD CHORES CREATED BY DOGS!
About the Property
This position is based on a private 40-acre farm property with maintained walking trails .
The setting provides expansive outdoor space for structured walks, supervised play, and
enrichment. The Dog Nanny must be comfortable working outdoors daily and confidently
managing four large dogs in an open-land environment.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Care
● Provide attentive supervision for four Newfoundlands
● Maintain structured feeding schedules
● Ensure fresh water availability (indoors and outdoors)
● Administer medications and supplements as directed; must have experience
administering shots both subQ and IM
Exercise & Outdoor Management
● Lead multiple daily structured walks on private trails
● Supervise outdoor play across the 40-acre property
● Monitor weather conditions and adjust activity levels accordingly
● Ensure dogs remain within designated property boundaries
Grooming & Hygiene
● Daily brushing and coat maintenance (heavy shedding breed)
● Clean and thoroughly dry dogs after wet or muddy outdoor time
● Monitor paws, ears, and skin condition
● Assist with bathing as needed
Veterinary & Appointment Management
SUPPORT HOUSE MANAGER WITH COORDINATION
● Schedule veterinary, grooming, and specialty appointments
● Coordinate annual exams, vaccinations, and preventative care
● Transport dogs safely to and from vet or grooming visits
● Maintain medical records and appointment calendar
● Communicate with veterinary offices as needed
● Monitor recovery and follow post-visit care instructions
Household Pet Support
● Prepare meals and clean feeding areas
● Pick up and properly dispose of waste on property and trails
● Maintain clean dog living areas (vacuuming, laundering, bedding)
Monitoring & Communication
● Observe and report any behavioral or health concerns
● Provide daily updates (text/photos if requested)
● Maintain simple daily log of feeding, exercise, medications, and bathroom activity
Qualifications
● Proven experience caring for large or giant breed dogs required
● Physically capable of handling dogs 100–150+ lbs
● Experience in farm or large-property settings preferred
● Comfortable driving dogs to appointments
● Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
● Knowledge of positive reinforcement training
● Reliable, punctual, and highly trustworthy
● Able to lift up to 50 lbs materials/supplies

● Experience as part of coherent team of care ( well with others)
● Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
● Experienced managing multiple large dogs simultaneously
● Detail-oriented and observant
● Genuine love for large, affectionate breeds
Work Environment Notes●
Daily outdoor activity on 40-acre farm property
● Long trail walks required
● Exposure to mud, shedding, and farm elements
● Ability to assist/ lift 80-140 lb animal if needed
● This is a strictly no-smoking position. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises.
