Job Summary
Pau Pair is seeking a reliable and compassionate Dog Walker to assist residents in a secure, new appartment complex in Virginia.

The Dog Walker will safely retrieve a dog from a resident’s apartment, take the dog on scheduled walks, and return the dog safely to the resident’s apartment. This role requires responsibility, professionalism, and a genuine love for animals.

Because services are provided within a residential community, the candidate must be comfortable interacting respectfully with senior citizens and supporting their pet care needs.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with dogs, staying active outdoors, and providing dependable support to pet owners.

Responsibilities

Dog Walking

• Retrieve a dog from a resident’s apartment within a secure independent living facility
• Walk the dog for scheduled exercise and bathroom breaks
• Ensure the dog remains safely leashed and under control at all times
• Provide safe outdoor activity and supervision

Facility & Safety Procedures

• Follow building security and access protocols
• Respect resident privacy and community guidelines
• Safely escort the dog through common areas and outdoor spaces

Pet Monitoring

• Observe the dog for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior
• Report any concerns to Pau Pair or the pet owner promptly

Communication

• Provide brief updates to the pet owner or resident regarding the walk
• Maintain professional and respectful communication

Cleanliness

• Clean up after the dog during walks
• Maintain proper handling of leashes, harnesses, and pet equipment

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Experience

• Previous dog walking, pet sitting, animal care, or related experience preferred but not required
• Experience handling dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments is a plus

Skills & Traits

• Genuine love for animals and commitment to their safety and well-being
• Basic understanding of dog behavior and body language
• Reliable, punctual, and responsible
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions
• Comfortable working in a senior living community and interacting with senior citizens

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk dogs for extended periods
• Ability to safely manage energetic dogs of different sizes
• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions

Preferred (Not Required)

• Pet First Aid / CPR certification
• References from previous pet care or service roles

Work Environment

• Work primarily outdoors during dog walks and in all weather conditions
• Interaction with residents in an independent living community
• Flexible scheduling based on resident needs

Contract Length: Week-to-week temporary assignment depending on client needs and availability.
