  • You’re adaptable and able to handle a changing route and schedule from day to day
  • You manage your time well and communicate clearly when things change
  • You have hands-on experience working with dogs in a professional or volunteer setting

Additional hours may be available for the right candidate, but we do NOT offer full-time employment.

This Would NOT Be a Good Fit for You If:

  • You rely on this role as your primary or full-time source of income
  • You’re uncomfortable around larger dogs or dogs that may jump, bark loudly, pull, or react suddenly
  • You struggle with consistently arriving on time and staying on schedule
  • You struggle with multi-tasking or quickly switching between activities
  • You prefer a predictable, repetitive route with the same dogs every day
  • You’re not comfortable adjusting to last-minute schedule or route changes

What You’ll Do

  • Walk and care for dogs during scheduled visits
  • Follow client instructions and routines for each dog
  • Navigate between nearby appointments efficiently
  • Communicate updates and any issues clearly with the team

Requirements

  • Experience handling dogs in real-world settings (professional or volunteer preferred)
  • Strong time management and reliability
  • Comfort using navigation tools (Google Maps, etc.)
  • Ability to stay calm and make good decisions in unpredictable situations
  • Ability to travel quickly between appointments (up to 3–5 miles in <15 min)
  • Located within a short commute of Brookland or Petworth (approximately 10 minutes preferred)

Physical Requirements

  • Walking 5+ hours per day at a steady pace
  • Handling dogs that may pull or react suddenly
  • Bending, squatting, and staying active throughout your shift
  • Working outdoors in almost all weather conditions (with adjustments for extreme weather)

Pay & Benefits

  • $18.50/hr during training (up to 90 days), then $19+/hr based on performance
  • Paid training
  • Paid sick leave (after 90 days)
  • Mileage reimbursement when using your vehicle
  • Optional weekends/holidays with additional pay
  • Opportunities to take on additional hours and responsibilities over time

About Brookland Dog Walking Company

We’re a small, established dog walking and training company serving Northeast DC since 2012. We focus on thoughtful care, clear communication, and building long-term relationships with the dogs and clients we work with.

Pay: $18.50 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 9.0 – 12.0 per week
