Domestic Violence Court Advocate

Make a difference in the lives of domestic violence survivors !

Hope House, Inc., a non-profit domestic violence service agency, is currently seeking a compassionate, reliable, and trauma-informed professional to join our team as a Court Advocate. This role provides critical support to adult survivors of domestic violence as they navigate the legal system and access essential resources.

Court Advocates provide support, advocacy, and resource/referral services directly to survivors of domestic violence. The Court Advocate also works closely with area law enforcement and city prosecutors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Answer the 24-hour crisis hotline on a rotating basis
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention, safety planning, and lethality assessments to survivors
  • Assist survivors filing orders of protection
  • Provide survivors with information, support, and assistance in court systems throughout eastern Jackson county
  • Provide resource referrals and follow-up support
  • Act as a liaison between survivors and the criminal justice system.
  • Initiate phone contact with survivors before, during, and after case disposition
  • Collect and compile case and victim information from police reports and court dockets
  • Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, and other court personnel
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with quality and grant requirements
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule that includes evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related human services field and/or relevant training and experience
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, acceptable motor vehicle record, and reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Previous experience working with survivors of domestic violence
  • Experience working in crisis response, advocacy, or customer service in high-stress environments

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position works on-site at our Independence campus and at the Independence police department. Court Advocates frequently interact with individuals in crisis and must be comfortable working with law enforcement and other community partners.

Regular travel between Hope House, the police department, and court settings is required.
