Door Shop Production Manager

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Door Shop Production Manager to lead and oversee daily operations of our contractor-focused lumber yard door shop in Des Moines, Iowa. This leadership role is responsible for managing production workflow, supervising shop personnel, ensuring product quality, and maintaining on-time delivery standards for residential and light commercial projects.

Pay for this Role: negotiable, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all daily door shop production operations, including pre-hanging, machining, finishing, and assembly.
  • Manage production scheduling to meet builder and contractor deadlines.
  • Supervise, train, and develop door shop team members.
  • Ensure quality control standards are maintained throughout all stages of production.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Coordinate with sales staff and yard operations to ensure accurate order fulfillment.
  • Monitor inventory levels for doors, hardware, jambs, and related materials.
  • Improve workflow efficiency and implement process improvements.
  • Manage equipment maintenance and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Track production metrics and report performance to senior management
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in door shop production, millwork manufacturing, or related building materials environment.
  • Proven supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of residential and commercial door systems, hardware, and components.
  • Experience with pre-hanging equipment and door machining systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction documents.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with production software and basic computer systems.
  • Forklift experience (preferred).
  • Team development, production planning and scheduling, quality assurance, and strong time management skills.
  • Clear communication, customer-focused mindset in a contractor-driven environment, and an ownership mentality aligned with ESOP culture.
