The DOT Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing all safety and compliance programs at Nexus Disposal. This role ensures full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and local regulations while leading safety initiatives, training employees, and promoting a culture of accountability. The Safety Manager will investigate and manage incidents, claims, and inspections while working closely with drivers, operations, and leadership to reduce risk and maintain a safe workplace.
Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures in line with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and local regulations.

Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, new hire orientations, and ongoing training.

Conduct job safety observations, audits, and site visits, including property damage inspections.

Investigate and report all accidents, incidents, and injuries; perform root cause analysis and corrective action planning.

Manage workers’ compensation claims and ensure compliance with government reporting requirements.

Investigate and manage injury, property, liability, and auto insurance claims.

Claims adjuster experience to assist with efficient claims handling and resolution.

Represent the company in legal matters related to lawsuits or accidents, when necessary.

Ensure injured employees follow medical timelines, restrictions, and return-to-duty requirements.

Maintain accurate OSHA logs and partner with operations to implement safety improvements.

Monitor CSA scores, verify accuracy, and recommend corrective strategies.

Coach drivers on compliance, performance, and safe operating practices.

Represent Nexus during DOT, OSHA, Fire Marshal, City of Houston, and elevator inspections.

Dispatch the safety crew to repair and follow up on customer property damages, including but not limited to oil spills, damaged corrals, and related hazards.

Participate in safety committees and programs, and attend meetings as needed

Minimum 3 years of DOT/FMCSA safety and compliance experience (transportation or waste industry preferred).

Strong working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.

OSHA 30 certification (preferred).

CPR certification (required).

Mechanically inclined with the ability to evaluate vehicle and equipment safety.

Experience in safety audits, claims management, and accident investigations.

Strong leadership, communication, and training skills.

Excellent organizational and reporting abilities.

Proficiency with MS Office.
- CDL or commercial driving experience is a plus.
