GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
The Drainage Mitigation Seasonal Worker performs manual labor and basic maintenance tasks related to stormwater management and drainage systems. This position supports efforts to prevent flooding, control erosion, and maintain proper water flow throughout the city's drainage infrastructure. Work includes clearing debris from drainage channels, ditches, culverts, and storm drains; assisting with erosion control measures; and operating hand tools or light equipment under supervision. The role requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and involves physical labor. This a temporary role and will only last six months from date of hire.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As follows but not limited to:- Performs activities in the maintenance and repair of storm drainage system within the public right of ways.
- Works with and assists as part of a crew in digging ditches, repairing bridges, laying pipe, spreading asphalt and/or any other related work as necessary.
- Handles questions, concerns, and complaints from the general public with tact and diplomacy.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations.’
- May be responsible for grounds maintenance.
- May be required to work a stagger shift, depending on weather conditions if department needs require.
- Performs work of a skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled nature.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
NONESSENTIAL DUTIES
Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES.
- Working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in road and bridge maintenance work.
- Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to observe proper safety precautions.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions.
MAY OPERATE
Motorized vehicles and equipment that may not require CDL, plus other light equipment such as pickup trucks, UTV, crew cab, saws, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, mobile radio, and phone.
EDUCATION
Must have a minimum 8th-grade education.
DRIVER’S LICENSE
A valid Tennessee license with a clear driving record is required. If a candidate does not have a valid Tennessee driver's license, they must acquire one within 30 days of hire. CDL Training is available.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside-weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
