The Driver Dispatch Manager is responsible for training, evaluating, and supporting drivers in full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role requires close coordination with drivers, Customers, internal staff, and management to address issues, maintain strong professional relationships, and collaborate across departments to ensure employees have the tools and environment needed to succeed.
Apply principles and methods related to the movement of goods, including cost and benefit considerations.
Provide exceptional customer service, including needs assessment, adherence to service standards, and monitoring customer satisfaction.
Coordinate with drivers to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
Arrange periodic equipment maintenance as needed.
Maintain costs and profits within established budgets.
Track driver hours and mileage in collaboration with Load Planners to maximize productivity.
Support cost-reduction initiatives.
Monitor performance related to driver incidents, equipment failures, breakdowns, and other potential service disruptions.
Maintain service rates that meet company expectations, including a 99.0% on-time service rate.
Ensure drivers follow all safety regulations and that training methods are effective.
Ensure dispatch protocols comply with both client and company policies.
Demonstrate proficiency with administrative systems and procedures, including:
Transportation Management Systems (dispatching, order processing, etc.)
Microsoft Office and other business applications
Satellite tracking and communications software
Communicate daily with drivers.
Dispatch drivers for previous, current, and upcoming assignments.
Update TMS orders accurately and promptly.
Provide ETAs for pickups and deliveries.
Track and trace shipments.
Manage rail billing, tracking, tracing, and communication with customers and dray partners for intermodal operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Must have previous experience managing Drivers.
Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the transportation, supply chain industry.
Degree in business or related field preferred
Proficient in Excel and Word
Knowledge of CDL, DOT, and HOS standards
Fully knowledgeable on federal, state, and local transportation and intermodal regulations
