Drydocking Manager

As a Drydocking Manager at ZMI, you are mainly responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of all dry-docking and major repair activities for the company’s offshore fleet. This role ensures that vessels are maintained in full compliance with class, flag, and industry standards while maximizing operational performance, asset reliability, and lifecycle value. This includes providing technical leadership, overseeing project budgets, and ensuring that all docking activities are delivered safely, on schedule, and within approved financial parameters.


Key responsibilities:


  • Develop long-term dry-docking strategies, technical work scopes, and repair specifications to support fleet availability and asset integrity.
  • Conduct pre-docking surveys, condition assessments, and risk evaluations to define maintenance and upgrade requirements.
  • Plan and manage logistics, spare parts, materials, and specialized services to ensure smooth docking operations.
  • Lead the full lifecycle of dry-docking projects while ensuring safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery.
  • Monitor project progress, resolve technical constraints, and implement strong quality assurance processes for all works.
  • Prepare accurate budgets and estimates, maintain strict cost control, manage variations, and validate shipyard invoices.
  • Select and negotiate with shipyards, contractors, and service providers to achieve optimal technical and commercial results.
  • Coordinate with class societies, flag authorities, OEMs, and regulatory bodies to meet all certification and compliance requirements.
  • Drive a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to HSSE standards and proactively managing operational and project risks.
  • Provide technical expertise, support failure investigations, and lead root-cause analysis to strengthen fleet maintenance practices.


Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in ship repair, fleet technical management, or offshore vessel dry-docking.
  • Hands-on experience managing dockings for OSVs, AHTS, PSVs, jack-ups, barges, or similar vessels.
  • Strong understanding of class rules, flag state regulations, and international maritime standards.
  • Solid background in project management, budgeting, and coordinating multiple vendors.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP or CEng are an added advantage.
  • Strong leadership, planning, organizational, and technical capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to handle pressure, manage complex projects, and maintain high attention to detail.
  • Willing to travel frequently to shipyards or vessels and work extended hours during critical phases.
