DSPS Remote Math Tutor

Join our dynamic team as a DSPS Remote Math Tutor, where you'll empower students to achieve their academic goals through engaging, personalized online tutoring sessions. This paid position offers the flexibility to work remotely while making a meaningful impact on learners of all ages. As a DSPS (Disabled Student Programs and Services) Math Tutor, you'll utilize your expertise in mathematics and educational technology to create supportive learning environments that foster confidence and success. Your role will involve guiding students through complex concepts, developing tailored lesson plans, and leveraging innovative learning tools to enhance understanding.

An hourly, temporary position, on-call, as-needed, no more than 19.5 hours per week and no more than 175 days per fiscal year.

  • Provide one-on-one remote tutoring sessions in various math subjects including algebra, geometry, calculus, trigonometry, differential equations, statistics, discrete math, and higher-level courses such as organic chemistry or biochemistry when applicable
  • Develop customized lesson plans and instructional materials that meet individual student needs and learning styles
  • Utilize learning technology platforms to deliver interactive lessons and track student progress effectively
  • Assist students with understanding complex concepts related to physiology, anatomy, microbiology, genetics, or other science disciplines when relevant to math applications
  • Support students with special education needs by adapting teaching strategies and classroom management techniques to ensure inclusive learning experiences
  • Maintain detailed records of tutoring sessions, student progress, and areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with faculty and support staff to align tutoring strategies with curriculum standards and academic goals

Requirements

  • Proven experience in tutoring or teaching mathematics at various levels, including college-level courses such as calculus, organic chemistry, or electrical engineering
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development and lesson planning tailored to diverse student populations
  • Familiarity with learning technology platforms and digital tools for remote instruction
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues during online sessions
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children, adolescents, or adult learners in a virtual environment
  • Background in classroom experience or higher education teaching preferred
  • Knowledge of special education strategies and accommodations for students with disabilities is highly desirable
  • Ability to communicate complex mathematical concepts clearly and patiently across different age groups and skill levels
  • Relevant background in STEM fields such as mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, data structures in computer science, or biochemistry enhances your candidacy
