Position Summary & Essential Duties

The following duties, responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s), and physical requirements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. The information listed below is not intended to be construed as a complete listing of all duties, responsibilities, KSA’s, and physical requirements required of this position since changes to the position may occur at any time or additional requirements that may be added over the course of time.

SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Dual Credit and High School Partnerships and the Associate Director of Dual Credit, the Student Success Navigator (DCSSN) works in close coordination with Dual Credit Enrollment Advisors (DCEAs) to provide proactive, holistic support to dual credit students.

Serving as part of an integrated advising and support model, the DCSSN focuses on retention, persistence, and student success, complementing the recruitment and enrollment efforts led by DCEAs. The role provides wraparound services that address academic, social, and emotional needs, while ensuring seamless support from onboarding through completion.

Qualifications (Required and Preferred)

Associate degree and two (2) years of directly related full-time work experience, OR


  • High school diploma/equivalency and four (4) years of directly related work experience.
  • Part-time work will be prorated and counted toward the overall requirement if related.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of directly related experience in student advising, support services, or education administration.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Dual Credit Team Collaboration


  • In partnership with DCEAs, support enrollment-related processes as needed to ensure a smooth student experience.
  • Receive referrals from DCEAs for students needing additional academic, social, or emotional support.
  • Provide feedback to DCEAs on student progress, barriers, and intervention outcomes.
  • Collaborate on student outreach strategies, especially for at-risk populations.
  • Participate in joint planning for recruitment events, orientations, and transition support.
  • Ensure continuity of service between enrollment (DCEA) and retention/success (DCSSN).

1. Serve as a liaison between Temple College and high school partners to promote student support:
  • Coordinate regularly with high school counselors, registrars, principals, and teachers to ensure timely student visits and coordinated support.
  • Act as a connector between students and college-based academic resources, including the Math Lab, Writing Lab, tutoring, advising, accommodations, financial aid, and testing services.
  • Engage with families and refer them to appropriate internal or community resources (e.g., mental health services, housing assistance, food support, technology help, financial aid, and wellness programs).
  • Provide ongoing support for students across their academic journey, from initial application through to graduation.

Liaison & Partnership Support
  • Coordinate with high school partners and DCEAs to ensure aligned communication and student support.
  • Serve as a bridge between students, DCEAs, and college resources.
  • Engage families and connect them to internal and community resources.
  • Ensure seamless communication and continuity of support between enrollment (DCEA) and student success interventions.

2. Wrap-Around Student Support
  • Provide targeted interventions for students identified through DCEA referrals, CRM alerts, or faculty input.
  • Collaborate with DCEAs and campus departments to create individualized support strategies.
  • Address complex academic, social, and non-academic barriers (e.g., time management, technology access, family/work responsibilities, mental wellness).

3. Retention & Case Management
  • Monitor student progress using CRM tools and institutional data.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to at-risk students.
  • Maintain detailed case notes and service documentation for accountability and reporting.
  • Track and contribute to key student success metrics (retention, course completion, persistence).

4. Enrollment & Onboarding Support (Refocused Role)
  • Support onboarding processes in collaboration with DCEAs, including:
    • System navigation (Self-Service, D2L)
    • College readiness skills
  • Reinforce—not duplicate—DCEA advising by focusing on student success skills and persistence.
  • Focus on student readiness and transition support rather than primary enrollment advising.

5. Student Success Programming
  • Develop and deliver workshops on:
    • Time management
    • Study skills
    • College expectations
    • Navigating dual credit rigor
    • Plagiarism
    • Other presentations as needed.
  • Coordinate student success hours, campus visits, and virtual support sessions.
  • Design and deliver programming that builds college readiness and supports long-term student persistence.

6. Event & Program Support
  • Collaborate with DCEAs on recruitment, orientation, and transition events.
  • Support student-facing events focused on persistence, transition, and completion.
  • Support the department during all major dual credit events.

7. Enrollment & Academic Support:
  • Support and attend recruitment events, parent nights, college fairs, and orientation sessions in coordination with ISDs and Temple College.
  • Assist in collecting, reviewing, and managing essential student documentations such as applications, transcripts, test scores, immunization records, waivers, and degree plans.
  • Reinforce advising provided by DCEAs and support student understanding of next steps.
  • Refer students for accommodations and guide them through graduation, financial aid, grievance, and appeal processes.

8. Compliance & Collaboration:
  • Maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), and Temple College policies.
  • Attend departmental meetings, participate in staff development, and stay informed about policy or procedural updates.
  • Foster a collaborative, student-centered culture among staff, students, faculty, and families.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior in all college and school partnerships.
  • Ensure all student interactions and records are handled in compliance while maintaining a high level of trust and confidentiality.

9. Other Duties:
  • Maintain availability for in-person advising at Temple High School and other assigned campuses as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Dual Credit and High School Partnerships.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to meet student and campus needs, including occasional evenings or off-site support.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities & Physical Demands

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:


  • Proficient in office procedures, including document handling, student record management, and word processing.
  • Knowledge of Temple College admissions processes, academic policies, and registration systems.
  • Understanding of Department of Education and THECB guidelines, particularly for dual credit programs.
  • Strong customer service orientation and the ability to develop trusting, supportive relationships with students and families.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active listening and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and track student progress.
  • Professionalism in all interactions with colleagues, students, and external partners.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Light physical activity is required, with occasional lifting of objects up to 15 pounds. Standing for extended periods and transporting materials may be necessary for recruiting and outreach events.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed both on-campus and at partner high schools. Extensive travel is required. Evening and occasional weekend work are expected during peak periods.

WORK SCHEDULE:
A flexible work schedule may be required to align with the ISD schedule. Temple College’s schedule is 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, with a 1-hour lunch break.
8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday.
Summer:
7:30 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Thursday with a half-hour lunch break

This position requires evening work during registration and recruiting, and may require providing virtual services on the weekend.

This is an on-site position. Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person, during prescribed work hours.

DIRECT SUPERVISOR:
Executive Director of Dual Credit and High School Partnerships in coordination with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services and Chief Academic Officer.

Medical plans include prescription coverage. Employee medical coverage monthly premiums are fully paid for by the college and the college pays for one-half (1/2) of the cost of dependent care coverage monthly premiums.
  • OPTIONAL BENEFITS:

ANNUAL AND SICK LEAVE ACCRUALS
  • ANNUAL LEAVE ACCRUALS:
Regular, full-time twelve (12) month faculty and staff accrue Annual Leave as follows:
  • Years of Service: 0 through 5
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Month) = 8
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Year) = 96
  • Years of Service: 6 through 10
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Month) =10
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Year) =120
  • Years of Service: 10 plus years
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Month) =12
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Year) =144

Annual leave may be accrued up to a limit of 240 hours with special provisions allowing for annual accruals above that limit. Faculty with contracts less than 12 months do not accrue Annual Leave but are provided with 20 hours of personal time per fiscal year.

  • SICK LEAVE ACCRUALS:
Faculty and Administrative Staff: Accruals of 8 hours per month. Sick Leave may be accrued up to a limit of 1040 total hours. Faculty with contracts less than 12 months will receive accruals during the summer semester if they instruct during that time.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • HOLIDAYS: Recognized college holidays, in addition to Annual and Sick leave accruals, include Labor Day, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Martin Luther King Day, Spring Break, Good Friday, Memorial Day and Independence Day.
  • PAYROLL: Employees are paid by direct deposit through the last working day of the month. Actual deposits are paid on the last working business day of the month. All benefit deductions are taken at that time.
  • RETIREMENT: Temple College is one of the few community colleges in the state of Texas to be permitted Federal Social Security deductions. Temple College is a Section 218 employer.
All regular employees are mandated by the Texas State Legislature to enroll in either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) however, ORP participation is based upon position. All faculty members are eligible to participate in either TRS or ORP. A list of ORP providers is available.

  • Contribution:
    • Member: Teacher Retirement System (TRS) = 8.0% of annual salary
    • Employer: Teacher Retirement System (TRS) = 7.75% of member's annual salary
  • Contribution:
    • Member: Optional Retirement Program (ORP) = 6.65 % of annual salary
    • Employer: Optional Retirement Program (ORP) = 6.6% of annual salary
Tax Sheltered Annuities (TSAs) also known as Tax Deferred Annuities (TDAs) are available to all employees who are eligible to participate in the TRS/ORP retirement program and who wish to participate in this program. This participation is voluntary and contributions are made from the employee's salary. A list of providers is available.
  • MISCELLANEOUS LEAVE: Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), Jury Duty, Bereavement, Deteriorating weather, and Military training.
  • WORKERS COMPENSATION: If an employee is injured on the job, Temple College, through its Worker Compensation Program, pays all authorized hospital, nursing, and physician's fees. Additional benefits may be available.
