Durable Medical Equipment Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will manage the processing, verification, and documentation of durable medical equipment orders, ensuring seamless coordination between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies. Your expertise will help facilitate timely delivery of medical equipment while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. Duties

  • Review and process durable medical equipment orders, verifying accuracy and completeness
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation and approvals
  • Conduct insurance verification to confirm coverage and benefits for patients
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information and maintaining confidentiality
  • Utilize medical coding systems such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to accurately document procedures and diagnoses
  • Maintain detailed medical records related to DME requests, approvals, and deliveries
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to facilitate timely procurement and delivery of equipment
  • Assist in resolving insurance denials or discrepancies related to DME claims
  • Support office functions by managing medical records, updating databases, and ensuring accurate documentation of all transactions

Requirements

  • Proven experience in managed care or medical office environments, preferably with a focus on durable medical equipment
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and the importance of patient privacy protection
  • Familiarity with CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems for accurate documentation
  • Prior office experience in a healthcare setting, including medical records management and insurance verification
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology relevant to DME services and billing processes
  • Ability to navigate insurance procedures efficiently to verify coverage and process claims
