E-commerce Fraud Prevention Specialist

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fraud Prevention Specialist to take ownership of fraud prevention and order verification within our e-commerce operations. This is not an entry-level role. We are looking for someone who can confidently lead fraud review processes, identify risks, improve procedures, and help strengthen our overall fraud prevention strategy.

This role is responsible for reviewing high-risk orders, investigating suspicious transactions, verifying customer and payment information, and making informed decisions to approve, hold, or cancel orders based on risk factors. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in e-commerce fraud prevention, payment verification, chargeback prevention, and customer verification processes.

This position requires strong judgment, attention to detail, confidence in decision-making, and the ability to work cross-functionally with sales, customer service, operations, and order processing teams to protect the business from fraudulent activity while supporting legitimate customer orders.

The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, process-driven, and capable of stepping into an established operation to create structure, provide guidance, and drive continuous improvement in fraud prevention efforts.

Duties

  • Review e-commerce orders placed into Manual Review by the Order Processing Dept for fraud risk assessment.
  • Investigate Payment Review transactions where billing details do not match the cardholder information.
  • Analyze customer, payment, billing, shipping, and order details to determine fraud risk
  • Make informed decisions to approve, hold, or cancel high-risk orders based on findings
  • Contact customers by phone and email to complete verification and resolve suspicious transactions
  • Process micro-refund verification methods when additional payment validation is needed
  • Monitor fraud trends, chargeback risks, and suspicious purchasing patterns to improve prevention efforts
  • Create and improve fraud prevention procedures, thresholds, and verification standards for the team
  • Build and maintain training guides for new processors handling initial fraud review steps
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior fraud staff and support team development
  • Assist with monthly fraud reporting, data tracking, and analysis for leadership review
  • Work closely with Order Processing, Customer Service, Sales, and Operations teams to prevent fraudulent activity while protecting legitimate customer orders

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in fraud prevention and detection within an e-commerce or digital environment.
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to clearly document investigations and findings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to professionally handle customer verification conversations
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with confidence in approving, holding, or canceling orders based on risk
  • High attention to detail and ability to identify suspicious patterns, inconsistencies, and fraud indicators
  • Experience with fraud tools such as AVS/CVV review, payment verification platforms, and customer identity verification tools preferred such as Ekata or Peoplefinders.

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
