- A lead classroom teacher in a daycare setting is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing the daily program of activities for a specific age group of children, while also mentoring and guiding other staff members. This role involves creating a nurturing and stimulating environment that fosters each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. The lead teacher also collaborates with parents and other staff to ensure the well-being and success of all children

At Building Brilliance Day Care II Inc., we provide a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for infants and toddlers to explore, grow, and thrive. Located in the heart of Long Island City, our center is dedicated to fostering early learning through developmentally appropriate practices, compassionate care, and strong family engagement.

We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Lead Teacher to join our team and help set the foundation for lifelong learning during these critical early years.

Responsibilities

Curriculum & Classroom Leadership

  • Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, engaging curriculum aligned with Creative Curriculum or similar evidence-based frameworks
  • Ensure classroom activities support the social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development of each child
  • Lead by example and model best practices in early childhood education for assistant teachers

Child Assessment & Individualization

  • Conduct ongoing observations and assessments of each child’s development
  • Use assessment data to individualize instruction and inform lesson planning
  • Maintain portfolios and documentation in alignment with DOHMH requirements

Family Communication

  • Establish trusting, respectful relationships with families
  • Provide regular verbal and written updates on children’s progress
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and support family engagement initiatives

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment
  • Follow all NYC DOHMH Article 47 regulations, including supervision, sanitation, and child-to-staff ratios
  • Ensure accurate attendance, incident reports, and other documentation

Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Support and guide assistant teachers and floaters in classroom routines
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, trainings, and professional development
  • Collaborate with administration and fellow educators to ensure consistency and quality

Qualifications

Education (Must meet one of the following):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (preferred)
  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, or a Bachelor’s in any field with active enrollment in a program leading to a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education

Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience working with children under age 5 in a licensed childcare setting
  • Strong understanding of infant and toddler development, responsive caregiving, and play-based learning

Required Certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to start):

Pediatric First Aid and CPR (Infant/Child)

Completion of all mandatory NYC DOHMH trainings, including:

  • Child abuse and maltreatment identification and reporting
  • Prevention of SIDS and shaken baby syndrome
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Infection control and recognizing allergic reactions
  • Foundations in Health & Safety (for study plan candidates)

Enrollment in an approved study plan (if not yet fully certified)

Preferred Certifications (a plus, but not required):

  • NYC Food Protection Certificate – especially helpful if supervising food handling or snack prep
  • FDNY Certificates of Fitness (F-07 and S-95) – only needed if participating in fire drills or facility safety compliance

Pay: $45,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
