Summary

The Early Childhood Toddler Lead Teacher plays a vital role in creating a nurturing, joyful, and well-organized classroom environment. This position leads a cohesive teaching team, thoughtfully coordinates curriculum experiences, and oversees the daily rhythm of the classroom to ensure every child feels safe, supported, and inspired to learn.

Our Lead Teachers have a strong understanding of children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development and use this knowledge to create engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences. They foster a warm, stimulating atmosphere where toddlers are encouraged to explore, grow, and build confidence.

Strong communication is at the heart of this role. Lead Teachers build trusting relationships with children, families, and team members, provide guidance and mentorship to classroom staff, and partner with families to support each child’s success.

Duties

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, coordinate, and implement engaging classroom curriculum using developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
  • Lead by example by modeling best practices, coaching team members, and fostering a positive, collaborative teaching environment.
  • Plan and facilitate meaningful individual and group activities that actively engage children and promote social, cognitive, emotional, and physical development.
  • Build strong partnerships with families by maintaining open and consistent communication through daily conversations, progress updates, and parent–teacher conferences.
  • Ensure full compliance with all center policies, licensing requirements, and state regulations.
  • Maintain a healthy, safe, and nurturing classroom environment by upholding high standards for hygiene, cleanliness, supervision, and security.
  • Provide guidance and support to teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure consistent implementation of curriculum, routines, and safety practices.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records, documentation, and required files.
  • Actively pursue ongoing professional development and maintain a personal growth plan to support continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
  • High School Diploma/GED, Level II Credential (Or PD Plan to complete)
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional childcare experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift, carry, and support children up to 50 pounds
  • Sit, bend, kneel, squat, and move easily between floor and standing positions
  • Participate in playground and classroom activities
  • Tolerate noise, common illnesses, and outdoor weather conditions
  • Perform repetitive tasks such as diapering, feeding, and cleaning
