Kitsap Child Care and Preschool Lead Teacher Position

Mission Statement:

Established in 1966, we are a non-profit early learning center located in downtown Bremerton. We provide quality, affordable care for all families regardless of their socioeconomic status. We help children develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially so they are ready for kindergarten. We collaborate with community partners to promote the well being of children.

Description:

The teacher will provide a warm, nurturing, safe, and educational environment that promotes independence while encouraging children as individuals. The teacher is directly responsible for all children enrolled in the classroom and will plan the educational program with guidance and support of the Director as well as their co-teacher. The program is created around the individual needs of each child and incorporates an emergent based approach. The relationship between co-teachers of the same classroom is professional, respectful, open, caring, and collaborative. The classroom duties are shared between co-teachers and assignment of tasks will be communicated equally. This is to create a smooth-running classroom with knowledge on how to manage behaviors in a loving and educational manner.

Responsibilities:

  • To be knowledgeable of and adhere to all Washington State Administrative Code as well as meet Washington State Qualifications of an Early Childhood Teacher.
  • To maintain state and center ratios and supervise all children in given ratio through their entire day. Documenting children’s arrival, departure, and transitions through the day on the Face to Child form.
  • To maintain all USDA Food Program paperwork and assist children in the serving of snacks and lunches.
  • To plan and implement a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the child and the group as well as prepare, setup, take down, and put away materials and equipment.
  • To interact with the children and to encourage their involvement in the activities.
  • To prepare and maintain a warm and safe learning environment that is orderly, clean, appealing, and permits the children to explore and grow.
  • To plan with the Program Director and co-teacher lesson plans based around the classroom’s curriculum.
  • To maintain ongoing open, positive communication both written and verbal with families daily.
  • To observe, record, and evaluate individual progress of children as well as create goals for development.

Requirements at hire (or be willing to obtain within 90days of hire):

1. Be of 18 years or older

2. Have completed a high school education or equivalent and have proof to upload into merit

3. Have documented child development education

4. Be physically capable of stooping, bending, sitting, and getting down to a child’s level.

5. Be physically capable of lifting up to 50lbs.

6. Obtain and maintain all early childhood requirements such as CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, TB skin test, Portable Background Check and any other state or center requirements.

This position starts at $17hr depending on experience and education, with periodic raises and bonuses.
