Position Summary
The Early Childhood Teacher is responsible for fostering the spiritual, academic, social, and emotional development of young learners in alignment with St. Gregory the Great School’s mission of forming disciples of Christ. This role creates a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide faith-based instruction and model Christian values through daily interactions, prayer, and classroom culture.
- Design and implement developmentally appropriate lessons that support early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional growth.
- Create a structured yet flexible classroom environment that encourages exploration through play, inquiry, and hands-on learning.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies including small group work, guided play, storytelling, and experiential learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
- Establish clear expectations and routines that promote positive behavior and a safe, respectful classroom community.
- Assess student progress regularly and use data to inform instruction.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Supervise students during all school activities including lunch, recess, and field trips.
Curriculum & Instruction
- Plan and deliver lessons aligned with NYS standards and early childhood best practices.
- Integrate literacy, math, science, religion, and social development into daily instruction.
- Promote foundational skills including letter and number recognition, early writing, problem-solving, and collaboration.
- Incorporate play-based and hands-on learning experiences that support whole-child development.
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, development, and classroom activities.
- Prepare progress reports, report cards and participate in conferences.
- Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration to enhance student learning and school initiatives.
- Work cooperatively with classroom aides and provide clear direction and support.

Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Education (or in progress)
- New York State Certification (Birth–Grade 2 or Childhood Education 1–6)
- Minimum of 3–5 years teaching experience preferred
- Successful completion of background check and Protecting God’s Children certification

Physical Requirements
This position requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting classroom materials. The teacher must be able to actively engage with young children throughout the day and perform duties safely.
