Scope of Responsibilities
Consults with general education teachers to develop and maintain academic programming for students with an Individual Educational Plan. Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and participates in the special education process.
Performance Responsibilities
1. Uses data-based decision-making to lead a problem-solving model in dealing with student academic and behavioral concerns.
2. Consults with teachers, principals, staff members, and parents/guardians to assist students in making academic progress.
3. Aligns goals and objectives from the building team process to meet the needs of students.
4. Reviews, analyzes, and revises implementation plans and interventions. 5. Monitors the integrity of strategies and plans.
6. Provides analysis and interpretation of information and data in oral and written reports.
7. Conducts Individualized Educational Planning Team meetings and assists in ongoing review of strategies for students.
8. Explains due process procedures to parents and school staff.
9. Participates as a member of the building support team to assist all students in making academic progress. This includes serving as a data expert, language consultant, and intervention specialist utilizing Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RtI), and Positive Behavior & Literacy Supports (PBLS).
10. Assists with district and state assessments for students with disabilities.
11. Recommends or participates in the development of alternative academic and behavior strategies to staff and parents.
12 . Performs other duties as assigned by the administrators in Student Services or the principal(s).
Minimum Qualifications
1. Certification as a special education teacher by the Michigan Department of Education.
2. Master’s degree in education or a field of study related to special education.
3. Evidence of at least 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience, not less than 2 years teaching in a Special Education program.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Experience with problem-solving through data-based decision-making. 2. Experience in developing academic and behavioral interventions. 3. Experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
4. Background in learning and behavior management.
5. Experience with training and monitoring the implementation of a variety of research-based programs.
6. Ability to develop and to maintain acceptable relationships with school staff. 7. Ability to clearly express ideas and concepts verbally and in writing.
8. Knowledge of special education law.
9. Knowledge and experience in working with students with disabilities.
