POSITION SUMMARY:

The Early Learning Assistant/Floater position supports the work of the YMCA of Collier County, Inc., a leading not-for-profit organization committed to strengthening the communities in Collier County through its core focus areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The Early Learning Assistant/Floater assists the supervisor and teachers in providing excellent educational opportunities and care for young children (aged 3 mos. – 5 years).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist classroom teacher in developing and implementing classroom curriculum, lesson plans, and daily schedule.
  • Oversee specific components of classroom management as assigned.
  • Monitor children at all times.
  • Keep written records of children’s development and skills.
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Early Learning Manager/Director, the Youth and Family Director, and teaching staff to discuss, assess, and plan for various aspects of the Program such as curriculum, lesson plans, schedule, classroom procedures, children’s development, extracurricular activities, concerns of or about parents, and any other issues that may arise.
  • Organize room before and clean room and playground after daily Program.
  • Maintain and preserve all program equipment and supplies.
  • Report all problems, incidents, and accidents to supervisor immediately.
  • Complete written incident/illness/accident reports as necessary with teacher assistance.
  • Promote a positive relationship with parents by making a point of greeting them daily, sharing good news about their children with them, and informing them of any relevant information in a timely manner.
  • Be a supportive member of the team with the ability to act as a substitute when the lead teacher is out.
  • Be familiar with YMCA mission, policies and procedures.
  • Participate in YMCA programs and promotions.
  • Be an enthusiastic, dedicated, reliable, and committed member of our team.


Every incidental duty connected with the Early Learning Assistant/Floater job cannot be specified in the position description and the colleague, at the discretion of the CEO, may be required to perform duties that are not included in this job description.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meet all Department of Children and Family standards.
  • Certification in Infant, Child and Adult CPR, and Basic First Aid.
  • Completion of 45-hour child care course required by the State of Florida.
  • 18 years or older
  • Hold and maintain a driver’s license with reliable transportation.
  • Degree in Early Childhood Education or CDA (preferred)
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Must be able to meet the Association’s background screening requirements.

  • Must be able to stand, remain outdoors, and maintain continual physical endurance for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs., watch, listen, and facilitate group activities.
  • Must be mentally alert and be able to process and follow directions.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in the English language.

  • Onsite attendance is required of this position.
