Overview
Environmental Manager - Construction / Building / Civils - Yorkshire / East Midlands Sites + Remote Work.
Ideal opportunity for someone with previous main contractor experience; ecologists and environmental consultants will also be considered with a view to transferring experience to the main contractor side. Good opportunity for career progression.
Mix of site visits predominantly in Yorkshire and some in the East Midlands, with a mix of remote work.

Role & Duties
- Reporting to: Senior Environmental Manager.
- Provide specialist environmental support for bid / tender submissions.
- Provide detailed support during the pre-construction phase to ensure projects consider and plan for environmental and sustainability best practice.
- Undertake pre-start checks by reviewing preconstruction information and assessing areas of risk and appropriate mitigation measures.
- Apply for necessary environmental regulatory permissions.
- Develop environmental risk assessments.
- Develop Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
- Develop supplementary project-specific environmental management plans (e.g., Water Management Plans and Nuisance Management Plans) where needed.
- Review and improve environmentally high-risk method statements.
- Provide specialist environmental support to project teams during the construction phase.
- Monitor environmental performance against the company Environmental Policies and standards.
- Support the Senior Environmental Manager in setting the agenda for company environmental performance improvement across all operational sectors.
- Conduct environmental incident investigations and liaise with regulatory bodies; communicate lessons learned across the business.
- Support maintenance of the company environmental management system.
- Support working groups (e.g., sustainability groups) to enhance environmental and sustainability objectives.
- Provide specialist support to operational teams concerning changes to environmental legislation.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, company standards and ISO 14001; support audits, reporting and coaching.
- Influence the supply chain to comply with company environmental requirements and best practice initiatives.
- Support third-party environmental audits to ensure compliance.
- Develop and disseminate environmental good practice initiatives (e.g., CPD sessions, webinars, forums, training courses, supplier engagement).
- Deliver environmental training to operational and support teams (e.g., spill response / SEATS).
- Disseminate relevant environmental information and regulatory updates across the company.
- Support operational teams in implementing regulatory permissions (e.g., environmental permits; consents; exemptions).
- Support site teams in environmental performance monitoring (e.g., water, dust, noise).
- Be the point of contact and support to operational teams, with site visits as required.
Requirements
To be considered for this Environmental Manager role you must meet the following criteria:
- Previous environmental management role preferably in Construction or Civil Engineering.
- Previous experience of delivering training.
- Up to date knowledge of UK environmental legislation.
- Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems.
- Degree in environmental management or equivalent - highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
- Computer literate.
- Full UK Driving Licence with flexibility to visit sites in Yorkshire and the East Midlands.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to form good working relationships with multi-disciplined teams.
- Able to work autonomously and manage own commitments/diary/scheduling.
- Previous employment with a main contractor, sub-contractor, local authority or consultancy.
- Previous employment in an Environmental Advisor, Environmental Coordinator, Environmental Manager or similar role. Open to Ecologists or Environmental Consultants transferring experience over.
Remuneration
The successful Environmental Manager will receive:
- £40,000 - £55,000 basic salary (Dependent on experience)
