Job Summary:
Under direction, the Economic Development Specialist performs a broad range of professional, administrative, community development, affordable housing, Main Street, historic preservation, communications, special events, and project coordination duties in support of City operations and strategic initiatives. This position serves as a highly flexible generalist role responsible for implementing and supporting programs related to economic development, downtown revitalization, affordable housing, grants administration, community events, communications, permitting support, and organizational projects as assigned.
The Economic Development Specialist works closely with the City Administrator to advance City Council priorities, support community partnerships, coordinate projects, and assist with day-to-day operational and strategic initiatives. The role is intended to adapt to evolving organizational needs within a small rural municipal government environment and requires a high level of initiative, organization, and public interaction.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Political Science, Communications, Economic Development, or a related field preferred.
· Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience:
· Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience in local government, project coordination, event planning, economic development, housing, grants administration, communications, planning, or a related field preferred.
· Experience working in a small organization or rural community environment is desirable.
· Experience coordinating events, grants, or community initiatives is preferred.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
Certifications and Licensing Requirements:
· Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
Physical and Environmental Conditions Requirements:
Physical Demands:
This position performs primarily administrative and project coordination work in an office and community-facing environment associated with economic development, affordable housing initiatives, Main Street programming, community events, communications, and organizational support activities.
· Office/administrative demands: Ability to sit for extended periods; operate a computer and standard office equipment; perform repetitive keyboarding/data entry; read and prepare reports, grant materials, correspondence, and project documentation.
· Mobility & posture: Ability to stand and walk intermittently during meetings, public engagement, events, and site visits; occasional bending, reaching, kneeling, and stooping.
· Lifting/handling: Ability to lift/carry typical office and event materials including files, signage, supplies, and outreach materials; frequently up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs with assistance/mechanical aids as appropriate.
· Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, electronically, and in public settings with residents, business owners, contractors, partner agencies, volunteers, boards/commissions, and elected officials.
· Driving/travel: Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel locally and occasionally regionally for meetings, trainings, professional events, and partner coordination.
Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily in an office setting, with periodic work in public-facing environments, occasional outdoor/site-based conditions related to project coordination and City operations, and the opportunity for limited remote work as approved by the City Administrator and operational needs of the City.
Sensory, Communication, and Cognitive Requirements:
· Ability to read and interpret grant requirements, regulatory/compliance documentation, invoices, and financial records; maintain accurate tracking and reporting; manage multiple deadlines and shifting priorities; maintain confidentiality as needed.
Scheduling/Operational Conditions:
· May require occasional evening, weekend, or after-hours work during special events, meetings, grant deadlines, emergency operations, public engagement activities, or other time-sensitive projects as assigned.

Hiring Range: $72,000.00 - $85,000.00
