Position Title: Economics Engagement Officer

Type of Employment: 0.2 - 0.4 FTE - Fixed Term - 2 years

Classification: HEW Level 6

DUTY STATEMENT Primary Purpose of Position

The primary focus of the role would be to successfully deliver on strategic priorities to improve the perception of Economics in schools, and specifically to facilitate the development and implementation of a digital marketing strategy.

Strategic priorities include:
  • Encourage the study of Economics in schools and at university level, leading on initiatives that show how it is engaging and relevant, and that it can lead to a wide range of career pathways.
  • Encourage improved diversity and inclusion among students studying Economics, in metrics such as gender diversity and Indigenous representation.
  • Contribute to widening higher education participation in Economics for diverse demographics across Queensland.
  • Work with schools, communities, professional associations, the Women in Economics Network, the Young Economists, universities, and other stakeholders, to develop and deliver widening participation initiatives focused on improving the perception of Economics to diverse cohorts.
  • Support online and other activities with a focus of improving the perception of Economics to diverse cohorts.
  • Support the ESA (Qld) in activities aimed at improving the diversity and inclusiveness of the ESA (Qld)
Engagement and Communication
  • In collaboration with ESA (Qld) develop methods of communicating and engaging with students creatively to encourage participation and engagement with scheduled activities including web-based and print marketing strategies and prepare content according to plans.
  • Contribute to the creation, execution and tracking of regular updates and content, communicated in different forms for students, parents, schools and other key stakeholders.
  • Support ESA (Qld) to develop resources to assist students with their transition to higher education.
  • Build and manage relationships and expectations with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan and facilitate content curation across social media and digital channels.
  • Support the implementation of a Social Media Strategy across multiple platforms to grow social media presence and increase overall awareness.
Organisational Relationships

The position reports to Professor Daniel Zizzo, through Professor Daniel Zizzo, to the Management Committee of the Economic Society of Australia (Qld).

SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Completion of a relevant degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Creative flair and passion for content coordination.
  • A proven ability to develop initiatives and successfully support them to completion.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders as well as with students, including those who may experience barriers to participation in higher education such as students from low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and low SES students from regional and remote areas.
  • Proven sound interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated administrative, organisational, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Some relevant background knowledge in the field of Economics.
  • Graphic design experience.
  • Influencer outreach and public relations.
