Edge Bander/Doweling Technician

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

The Edgebanding Technician is responsible for applying edge banding to the exposed sides of materials such as plywood, particle board or MDF. The Doweling Technician is responsible for preparing cabinet parts for assembly by use of dowel joinery. This is primarily accomplished by operating an Elix boring machine.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Safely operate machinery and tools to efficiently apply edgebanding to cabinet parts.
  • Inspects and validates that the materials and parts meet quality specifications.
  • Maintains specifications by observing overall machine operations; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains specifications by observing boring, drilling and overall machine operations; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; reporting necessary repairs to Shop Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Sets-up edgebanding equipment and tools such as the AKRON 1400 and Festool Conturo for operations.
  • Sets-up the Elix for operations by loading programs, by maintaining full dowel dispenser, water canisters and calibrating the machine.
  • Organizes, stacks and moves product and cabinet components.
  • Maintains production records; labels manufactured products for shipment/secondary work.
  • Cleans and maintains work area, tools and equipment.
  • Seeks and performs alternate, productive tasks to keep busy during unexpected down time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and understand parts and material list.
  • Ability to read and understand plans which detail the layout and appearance of cabinetry and closets.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write simple instructions and short correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals as it relates to cabinet making and general construction.
  • Able to identify and safely operate a variety of wood working tools including sanders, saws, clamps and other small hand tools common to woodworking.
  • Ability to perform basic computer and phone applications for timekeeping and task tracking purposes.
  • Ability to identify wood species and cuts (rift sawn, quarter sawn, etc.)
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team.
  • Ability to identify defects in raw material and construction techniques.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to think critically to identify and solve problems.

Working Conditions

The work environment is typically a manufacturing environment. The work environment may include exposure to temperature variations and humidity. May be exposed to loud noises, dust particles and cleaning solutions or other substances. Travel to site visits may be necessary. Accessing company email may be required on personal device.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
