We are seeking a detail-oriented and service-driven Asset Protection Specialist (APS) to join our team. Job Qualifications &
Educational/Training Requirement:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred .
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Consumer lending experience a plus.
  • Understanding of the US Bankruptcy Code and the Small Claims Court System.
  • 3+ years' experience in collections for a financial institution or agency with a focus on collections for consumer, real estate, and business loans, including repossessions, foreclosures, and bankruptcies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must maintain working knowledge of current and pending laws and regulations pertaining to collections and follow all policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • The APS is expected to monitor suspicious account activity. Look for potential risks, fraud, identifying theft and potential areas of risk, detecting new account fraud and check card fraud.
  • Assist EdiFi's Fraud Investigator with information pertaining to potential fraud cases.
  • Responsible for collecting negative account balances, resolving loan delinquency, bankruptcy, and loss mitigation.
  • Discusses possible financial arrangements with management. Under the supervision of management the APS may inform members of potential legal actions, and suggest financial counseling to arrive at suitable repayment arrangements.
  • Ensures maximum recovery of charge off accounts.
  • The APS is expected to prepare foreclosed properties for sale and review the results with senior management.
  • As part of the collection team the APS will inform management on decisions to repossess collateral or litigate a file, coordinating all communication and correspondence with colleagues.
  • Represents the credit union by providing fully vetted, accurately researched information to representatives, adjusters, attorneys, and insurance companies.
  • If required, the APS may be asked to represent the credit union in court proceedings.
  • Analyzes and communicates loss control data, status of losses and alternative solutions to control loss with various departments.
  • Evaluates, develops, and implements collection policies and procedures ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • When requested, the APS may collaborate with legal staff, internal and external auditors, and federal examiners. This includes assisting in the development of internal controls to avoid potential problems.
  • Participates in the oversight of planning, development and administration of all insurance and claims activities of the organization. With managerial assistance the APS may be asked to work with insurance companies to process disability credit, credit life claims, and assist with repossession insurance claims.
  • Compile and generate reports as required. Review and report monthly metrics used to measure the effectiveness of collection efforts.

Office Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:30am to 5:00pm. Saturday's: 9:00am to 1:00pm, when needed.
