JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Media Department Director, the Editor & Graphic Designer is responsible for the publication of the official newspaper of the Colorado River Indian Tribes, Manataba Messenger. Additionally, the editor and graphic designer will assist in providinggraphics for any specific request or event, and manage www.crit-nsn.gov website. May also assist in the creation of any additional websites a department of CRIT may request. A lot of the work required for this position will be less of a strict schedule and more about balancing last minute designs, quick execution with professionalism, and able to jump from one project to the next with a proactive attitude.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

· Responsible for publishing the newspaper, physically collecting information for articles, other components that make up the newspaper, layout of the newspaper

· Responsible for organizing all content related to general and special stories executed by the Media Reporter and photography by the Media Technician. This will be in the Manataba Messenger print and online publication.

· Responsible for any and all graphics that are required to create the design of the newspaper

· Perform any requests from CRIT department entities that need assistance in creating event flyers

· Creation of funeral flyers upon request

· Assisting the Media Director in web design and management of the main CRIT website

· Updating departmental information, minor coding, creative input, uploading documents, photos, graphics, etc.

· Design the layout of the newspaper to make it flow through from beginning to end

· Check for spelling/grammar/syntax, fact check, and check all appropriate dates on all the articles that will be published within the newspaper

· Work with the Media Director on execution, deadlines, and approvals for submittals

· Be the second set of eyes for graphics, design, and editing of the continual construction of any official CRIT websites

· Work alongside the Media Reporter and Media Tech for articles, special layouts, and photography that should be in the newspaper

· Highly organized work station of all weekly articles and photos from the Media Reporter and Media Tech to cater which articles will make it into the newspaper and create a nice flow of content throughout the newspaper

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· A working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Canva

· Possess computer skills such as having an average typing speed of 36 wpm, able to fully utilize Microsoft Office from Word to Excel.

· Work with various people under deadlines and ability to work under pressure

· Have a working knowledge of Colorado River Indian Tribes culture and tribal needs (which can be gained upon employment) that will contribute to the needs of Tribal Members of the Colorado River Indian Tribes

· A working knowledge of graphic design and designing a newspaper under deadlines set forth by the Media Director

· Ability to work independently

· Able to occasionally work extended shifts as assigned, some weekends and holidays

· A candidate with strong soft skills who works well in a team environment, is able to collaborate effectively, take direction and creative critiques constructively, and brings a proactive attitude

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· High School Diploma or GED

· Current valid driver’s license

· At least 3 years of experience in the field of Graphic Design and or Newspaper Editing - a portfolio of work is requested

· Proficient in English grammar and syntax

· A working knowledge of web design and a basic understanding of coding is a huge bonus.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

· A background in English Literature or Communications preferred

Job Type: Full-time
