Editorial Fellow Description
About Us
Hola Cultura is an award-winning nonprofit website that celebrates the culture and contributions of Latinos to U.S. society. We produce independent media coverage of Latino arts and culture, conduct original research, and host events that showcase our diverse communities in the Washington, D.C., and Boston, Mass., metropolitan areas.
Proud winners of an Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for Best News Documentary, we lift up Latino voices, break down barriers, and promote cross-cultural understanding, while providing professional training and mentoring to Latino youth and young adults who produce the interviews, podcasts and other media we publish.
Vision: Hola Cultura defeats stereotypes with education and civic engagement. We build human understanding through art, culture, and journalistic storytelling.
Mission: Hola Cultura constructs innovative pathways to success for the community while fostering society’s demand for the arts and Hispanic cultural initiatives.
Your Role
As an Editorial Fellow in Hola Cultura's Storytelling Program for Experiential Learning (SPEL) for people between the ages of 16 and 25, you will lead a team of 3-5 Interns and Volunteers. SPEL meets remotely every Tuesday for professional development trainings and storylab time, when Fellows work with their teams to plan, produce, and publish original journalism for our online readers and podcast listeners. During the 90-minute sessions, teams brainstorm stories, conduct interviews, and work together to produce new stories and podcasts.
The ideal candidate has work experience or a strong interest in pursuing a career in journalism or related communication fields. Working closely with Hola Cultura's professional staff and other SPEL storytellers, you will be part of a creative team collaborating in a spirit of creativity and innovation to inform existing readers and cultivate new audiences.
