Editorial Intern

Are you an aspiring journalist who wants hands-on newsroom experience? Are you curious about how local businesses shape the Milwaukee region? Do you enjoy asking questions, telling stories and finding interesting angles others might miss?

BizTimes Media is seeking an editorial intern for the summer. We cover southeastern Wisconsin, helping the region’s business leaders better understand issues facing our community while highlighting the people, companies and ideas shaping the future of our region.

This is an opportunity to gain real-world journalism experience at a growing, locally owned media company with a 30-year track record of covering southeastern Wisconsin’s business community. Interns will work alongside award-winning journalists and contribute directly to BizTimes Milwaukee magazine, BizTimes.com and our newsletters.

Hands-on newsroom experience: Produce published work across digital, print and special publications.
Collaborative environment: Participate in editorial meetings, brainstorming and planning discussions alongside the full editorial team.
Broad exposure to media operations: Learn not only from the editorial department, but also interact with our operations, production and sales teams to better understand the business of media.

Responsibilities:

  • Write stories for BizTimes.com and BizTimes newsletters
  • Report and write short- and long-form features for BizTimes Milwaukee magazine
  • Contribute to special projects and annual publications, including STUFF, Giving Guide and Wisconsin 275
  • Participate in editorial planning, brainstorming and story development meetings

Qualifications:

  • Availability for 10-20 hours per week over 13-14 weeks
  • Ability to work from BizTimes Media’s office in Milwaukee’s Third Ward (remote or hybrid options available for the right candidate)
  • Demonstrated interest in journalism or the media industry through coursework, student publications or previous experience
  • Interest in Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin business news

Pay for this position is hourly, with the opportunity to earn $2,000 to $4,000 based on hours worked and previous journalism experience. BizTimes will also work with colleges and universities to complete college credit requirements as needed.
