About This Position
Are you passionate about nature, youth education, and building inclusive communities? We’re looking for a full-time Education Coordinator to lead hands-on nature programs in schools and on wildlife sanctuaries for children, teens, and families. During the summer, you’ll mentor a joyful, inclusive staff community and create unforgettable experiences for campers at Drumlin Farm Camp and Broadmoor Nature Camp. Responsibilities
Year-Round

  • Develop and teach nature education programs and curriculum in schools and on Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuaries for students, youth, families, and the public, including school vacation week programs. Work with team leads and colleagues to improve and innovate based on feedback.
  • Assist with budgeting process for one-week vacation week programs (February and April) and 9-week summer camp programs based at two sites.
  • Work with supervisor to recruit, hire, train, mentor and evaluate seasonal summer staff including counselors, coordinators, and assistant directors for two sites serving 1,300+ campers over 9 weeks of camp.
  • Support community outreach, marketing, and communication with participants and families before and during programs; evaluate and improve programs.
  • Partner with colleagues from operations, property, and education departments to ensure safe, educational programs.
  • Assist with compliance with all safety, health, and camp industry rules, protocols, and practices, including all required documentation for staff, campers, participants for licensing agencies and accrediting organization.

Summer Months

  • Assist with all aspects of camp preparation, training, camper and staff physical and emotional safety, customer service, program planning, and program implementation. In the Camp Director’s absence, serve as onsite director.
  • Collaborate with Camp Director to plan and carry out staff training, including developing a cohesive, compassionate staff community, and delivering training on areas such as educational techniques, safety procedures, behavioral guidance, and nature education for seasonal camp employees.
  • Assist with regular communication with camp families and caregivers, including responding to concerns with professionalism and compassion.
  • Provide support, energy, motivation, and a fun and inclusive community for staff and campers.
  • Ensure activities and lessons meet camp goals and outcomes and are appropriate for the abilities of campers.
  • Assist Camp Director and camp leadership to monitor and evaluate camp staff; provide feedback, program ideas, and guidance to counselors. Communicate concerns regarding counselor performance with supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow all safety and educational procedures during camp programs. Report incidents and share observations with Camp Director about safety incident trends.
  • Collaborate with Camp Director, Property Managers, and other onsite staff to ensure site safety. Ensure staff follow guidelines for equipment use and maintenance and perform regular checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.

Must Haves

  • At least 21 years of age
  • 1+ years of experience working with children or youth at a camp, after-school program, or similar environment in a leadership role
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a desire to work collaboratively on a team
  • Experience creating and delivering educational programs and activities in or out of schools
  • Supervisory experience including managing and working with multiple people of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to incorporating principals of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice into all areas of work, and a commitment to continued personal learning
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in most weather conditions
  • Able to physically access sanctuary terrain by foot

Nice to Haves

  • Experience hiring and supervising staff
  • Experience working in a school or similar educational environment
  • Experience leading or helping at a camp through ACA accreditation process
  • Strong community engagement skills
  • Familiarity with experiential learning and the development of curriculum aligned with state standards
  • Fluency in a second language (Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, or other) is desirable

Compensation, Benefits and Perks
This position’s pay range is $23.50-26.00/hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.

Work Schedule
Full time schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. From September-May, weekend hours occur at least twice per month and/or some evening hours will be required. This position has the option to work a hybrid schedule during the school year, with a mix of in-person (at least 3 days weekly) and remote work. During the summer, this position must be on-site five weekdays per week, and can expect to work 9-10 hours per day occasionally. Vacation time is unlikely during the months of May through August due to the summer schedule.

Other Requirements
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
