Educational Programs & Communications Manager

BuildGreenCT is a statewide, member-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to accelerating the just and sustainable transformation of the built environment through education, advocacy, and community-building.
We deliver year-round educational programs—including webinars, green building tours, panel discussions, and networking events—along with two flagship events: the Green Building Impact Awards and the Northeast Summit for a Sustainable Built Environment (NESSBE).
The Position
BuildGreenCT is seeking a confident, detail-oriented self-starter to lead the planning,
coordination, and delivery of our educational programs and support related communications efforts.
This is a mission-critical role central to member engagement, program impact, and revenue generation. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, volunteer-driven environment and can independently manage multiple moving parts while maintaining professionalism and precision.
This is primarily a remote position with occasional in-person event/meeting support in
Connecticut. While there is flexibility for the time of work, the expected availability is a standard business workday (9:00-5:00), with the ability to be available, one hour outside of this window, to attend virtual meetings or events.
The person in this role will work with a constellation of committees composed of board
members, advisors, volunteers, and outside consultants, while receiving guidance from, and reporting to the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Event Management (Primary Focus)
· Serve as lead coordinator for 7–10 educational programs per year, including virtual and in-person events,
· Support planning committees and maintain clear documentation, timelines, and budgets,
· Coordinate speakers, sponsors, and partners,
· Manage event logistics and set-up the technical infrastructure required for program delivery (Eventbrite, Wordpress, Zoom, Salesforce.org CRM, etc.),
· Develop run-of-show materials and ensure smooth event delivery,
· Function as organizational ambassador at virtual and in-person events,
· Oversee post-event follow-up, surveys, and impact tracking,
· Compile program metrics and prepare reports for leadership and Board review.
Marketing & Communications Support
· Collaborate with Executive Director, marketing committee, and marketing consultant to develop promotional content,
· Draft and proofread event copy for website, email, and social media,
· Coordinate marketing assets (bios, images, sponsor logos),
· Support cross-promotional outreach with partner organizations,
· Assist with tracking marketing performance metrics.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, with at least 2 years relevant work,
· Experience in nonprofit program coordination, event planning preferred,
· Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and accurate work-product is a must,
· Strong written and verbal communication skills,
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and prioritize competing demands to ensure that program elements are delivered in a timely, professional, and competent manner,
· Comfortable working with volunteer committees and external partners,
· Strong proficiency with Google Workspace and Excel,
· Proficiency with event-registration software, Eventbrite strongly preferred,
· Familiarity with virtual event coordination, Zoom strongly preferred,
· Experience with web-based CRM systems, Salesforce.org preferred,
· Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for in-person events.
Who You Are
You are organized, proactive, team-oriented, and enjoy managing complex logistics and ensuring that events run smoothly from planning through follow-up. You are comfortable behind the scenes and in front-of-house, serving as an enthusiastic ambassador for BuildGreenCT.
Terms & Compensation:
This position may be structured either as a part-time employee role or an independent
contractor engagement, depending on candidate preference and qualifications. Compensation is $20–$30/hour depending on experience (approximately $20,800–$31,200 annually based on 20 hours/week).
