Educational/Creative Aide for student with TBI (Location Skidmore College)

We are seeking a thoughtful, engaged educational aide to support a 19-year-old college student during his participation in the Skidmore Summer Writing Program. The student is recovering from a traumatic brain injury and this role sits at the intersection of accommodations/academic support, social support and safety. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys helping a student participate in creative writing classes, maintain safety and rebuild social confidence.

Passion for poetry and creative writing a big plus.

This is a job for a current Skidmore student or recent Skidmore Grad.

The student will be living at Skidmore from June 21 to July 18. We are seeking two aides to split the responsibilities and schedule.

1) Attend classes with the student, supporting any accommodations needs, and participate in activities during the day, including literary activities as part of the program, walks, going to the gym, etc.

2) Take over after hours and overnights; hang out in the evening, accompany to social events. Student will have a two bedroom apartment, with one room for the aide.

Responsibilities:

• Learning Strategy Support - Support his independence in academics
• Assistive Technology – Help with note-taking and accessibility tools
• Classroom Support – Attend workshop classes, organize materials
• Communication with Teachers & School Contacts – ensure smooth collaboration with teachers
• Social Integration - accompany to social events, support increasing independence

Who Should Apply?

• Experience or strong interest in poetry and creative writing
• Experience or strong interest in tutoring, special education and executive functioning support
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and strong note-taking skills
• Patient, adaptable, and able to think creatively to support learning

Pay: $25-$30/hour

Hours: TBD depending on how we balance the successful applicant schedules

Housing: Provided for the overnight aide.
