Job Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Security Manager supervises and directs all EHS and security functions, ensuring EHS and safety activities reduce risk, eliminate incidents, and are performed within external regulatory requirements and internal management guidelines. The EHS and Security Manager ensures the health and safety of all managers, employees, and contractors by monitoring all operations concerns and taking action to protect the health and welfare of APEL and APEL personnel.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
-
Provide strategic oversight of all APEL EHS and facility security activities in partnership with senior leadership.

Establish and maintain the plant’s EHS and security vision, goals, and performance metrics.
-
Develop and execute strategic and tactical plans to prevent fatalities, reduce incidents, mitigate security risks, and improve overall risk recognition.

Lead the Safety Committee to promote safety awareness and a zero-incident, security-conscious culture.

Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA and federal, state, and local environmental, health, safety, and security-related regulations.

Oversee environmental permitting, ensuring requirements are understood and implemented.

Manage and submit accurate and timely regulatory reports, including environmental filings and OSHA logs.

Maintain programs, standards, and documentation to support ongoing compliance.

Develop, implement, and maintain EHS and security programs, policies, and procedures.

Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness; update procedures, documentation, and systems as needed.

Lead initiatives to implement engineering and administrative controls to reduce safety, ergonomic, occupational health, and security risks.

Administer and maintain the SDS program and other compliance systems.
-
Identify EHS and security training needs and develop comprehensive programs for employees and management.

Deliver and coordinate training on safety procedures, emergency response, security protocols, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

Work with department managers to ensure training is properly scheduled and resourced.

Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions to eliminate recurrence.

Conduct investigations into missing inventory, suspicious activity, and potential theft (internal and external).
-
Ensure accurate and timely incident reporting in accordance with regulatory and internal requirements.

Manage workers’ compensation claims.

Coordinate with law enforcement when required.

Develop and implement inspection and audit routines to identify and correct safety and security risks.

Conduct facility, equipment, and security inspections to ensure compliance and safe operations.

Respond to and support emergency situations, ensuring preparedness through proper planning and training.

Control access to the facility, including management of badges, gates, and visitor logs.
-
Oversee surveillance systems (CCTV) to ensure proper coverage and functionality.

Protect high-value assets, including aluminum billets, finished extrusions, and tooling/dies.

Serve as the primary point of contact for all EHS and security programs across departments and locations.

Provide security training (i.e. active shooter, unidentified persons, etc.).

Oversee procurement and management of EHS and security resources, including PPE, waste disposal, industrial hygiene, and testing services.

Manage selection, inventory, and distribution of PPE and first aid supplies.

Maintain safety and security materials such as procedures, signage, evacuation plans, and authorization lists.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
-
Minimum 8 years managerial experience in a manufacturing/plant environment.
-
Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or environmental engineering, chemical engineering, industrial management, or other relevant discipline from an accredited institution.

Familiarity with OSHA, federal/state/local EHS regulations.

Worker's Compensation claims and case management.

Ability to read, write, and understand English.
