Electrical Apprentice

The Electrical Apprentice works under the direct supervision of a Journeyman or Master Electrician to learn the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems in industrial, commercial, and residential environments. This role combines hands-on field experience with classroom or formal training to develop the skills required to advance within the electrical trade. Initial responsibilities will focus on basic labor and support tasks, progressing to more technical electrical work as experience and competency increase. Apprentices may be required to register with the state or obtain applicable licensing as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed electricians and follow instructions to safely complete assigned tasks.
  • Prepare, maintain, and clean work areas and job sites.
  • Transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from work areas.
  • Assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical wiring, conduit, devices, and equipment.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment to perform conduit installation and basic electrical work under supervision.
  • Learn and follow applicable safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Assist with trenching, digging, and other labor tasks as required.
  • Identify electrical components, materials, and equipment.
  • Follow all safety codes, building regulations, and company policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or lead electricians.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of, or enrollment in, an electrical apprenticeship or training program preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check, pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles and systems.
  • Ability to use or learn electronic testing equipment and basic electrical tools.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn NEC, OSHA, and applicable industry standards.
  • Ability to learn electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop electrical skills.
  • Basic troubleshooting aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently when directed or collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to work in remote locations and adapt to changing job site conditions.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, extended hours, or be on-call as required.

Work Environment

  • This position is primarily field-based and involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Work hours may vary depending on project demands and operational requirements.
  • This is a full-time position.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, kneeling, and manual handling of tools and materials.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and industrial environments.

Travel

  • Daily travel to job sites is expected.
