Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Designer/Drafter to support our panel shop operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating accurate electrical and mechanical drawings for control panels, switchgear assemblies, and related systems. This role involves working closely with engineers, electricians, and fabrication teams to ensure designs meet project requirements, industry standards, and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed electrical and mechanical drawings for control panels, wiring layouts, and assemblies using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or SolidWorks Electrical).

  • Create detailed 3D models and drawings for switchgear assemblies and panel enclosures.

  • Develop panel layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bill of materials (BOMs).

  • Ensure drawings comply with company standards, electrical codes, and customer requirements.

  • Revise and update existing drawings and documentation as needed.

  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and shop personnel to resolve design or fabrication issues.

  • Create and maintain accurate documentation for manufacturing, assembly, and installation.

  • Assist in standardizing design templates, symbols, and drawing practices.

  • Support continuous improvement of design processes and shop efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma or certification in Electrical Design, Drafting, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar CAD platforms.

  • Understanding of control panel layouts, electrical components, and wiring practices.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.

  • Knowledge of UL 508A, CSA, or other relevant electrical standards is an asset.

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation practices.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Office and workshop environment; occasional time on the shop floor to review builds.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer or reviewing layouts.
