Job Description
Electrical Controls Technician
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Job Summary:The Electrician/Controls Technician isresponsible to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical systems, control panels, and automation components supporting continuous operation of all equipment throughout the facility. This role ensures safety, uptime and performance of power distribution, motor control systems, furnaces, PLCs, and instrumentation across 3 shifts of production.
Essential Job Functions:
· Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on:
o Motors (AC/DC up to 480V)
o MCCs, switchgear, disconnects.
o Industrial lighting and control circuits.
o Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Soft Starters.
· Troubleshoot motor and circuit issues using meters, meggers, and thermal tools.
· Wire and inspect thermocouples and other instrumentation components.
· Troubleshoot and program basic ladder logic PLD systems (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc).
· Maintain field sensors, thermocouples, pressure switches, and load cells.
· Support improvements to automated processes in furnaces, conveyors and other equipment.
· Wiring of control panels and loop checks.
· Work safely and follow all Cal/OSHA and NFPA 70E standards and be familiar with the NEC.
· Complete work orders and documentation.
· Assist during equipment installations and capital projects.
· Provide on-call support during plant emergencies and/or shutdowns.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· 5+ years of experience as an industrial electrician in a manufacturing or metals processing plant.
· Strong troubleshooting skills in 480V 3-phase power systems.
· Experience with VFDs, motor controls, and conduit runs.
· Ability to read wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.
· Valid electrical license or electrician certification preferred.
Desired:
· PLC troubleshooting or programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens S7, Eaton)
· Familiarity with process instrumentation (thermocouples, RITDs, proximity sensors)
· Spanish/English bilingual preferred (not required)
· OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E training.
Work Environment:
· Industrial environment with exposure to heat, dust, and chemicals.
· Requires walking, climbing, standing, and wearing proper PPE.
· Occasional on-call support or weekend/holiday work will be required during critical downtime.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
