Electrical Design Engineer

Job Summary

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and reviewing electrical systems for construction, industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects. The role includes preparing engineering calculations, technical drawings, specifications, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

• Prepare electrical designs for power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, earthing, lightning protection, and low-current systems.
• Perform electrical load calculations, voltage drop calculations, short-circuit analysis, and cable sizing.
• Design LV electrical distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, and associated equipment.
• Prepare single-line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, layouts, and detailed engineering drawings.
• Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review and interpret client specifications, tender documents, and project requirements.
• Ensure all designs comply with local authority regulations, electrical codes, and international standards.

Documentation & Technical Support

• Prepare technical specifications, material submittals, and equipment schedules.
• Develop bill of quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates for electrical works.
• Review vendor drawings, technical submissions, and product data sheets.
• Provide technical support to project teams during construction and commissioning phases.
• Participate in design reviews, value engineering exercises, and technical meetings.

Project Coordination

• Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
• Monitor project schedules and ensure timely completion of design deliverables.
• Resolve technical issues arising during design and construction.
• Assist in preparing tender and bid documentation.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure designs comply with applicable safety standards and regulations.
• Follow company quality management procedures and engineering best practices.
• Support project compliance with local authorities and utility providers.
• Participate in risk assessments and design reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Experience

• Minimum 7 years of experience in electrical design for construction, building services, MEP, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience with UAE/GCC projects and authority requirements is preferred.
• Familiarity with international standards such as IEC, NFPA, IEEE, and BS standards.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience with Revit MEP and BIM coordination.
• Knowledge of ETAP, Dialux, Amtech, or similar electrical design software.
• Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and design principles.
• Ability to prepare technical reports and engineering calculations.
