Electrical Engineer

Cleveland-Cliffs, Rockport Works, is looking for an Electrical Engineer in our finishing area. The Electrical Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving electrical and automation systems, while driving projects to increase productivity, equipment reliability, and production quality. Projects assigned are complex, involve multiple variables, and can be cross-functional. Individuals in this role prepare effective communications across the organization and aid in problem resolution specific to assigned programs/projects.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement process improvements using electrical and programming expertise
  • Troubleshoot electrical, programming, and process-related issues
  • Develop and modify control logic and code to optimize operations
  • Test and validate programming and equipment changes
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to drive results
  • Review and update electrical schematics, blueprints, and drawings
  • Oversee and coordinate electrical work performed by contractors
  • Lead design, specification, and development of electrical systems and equipment
  • Apply knowledge of industrial wiring, controls, and instrumentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field
  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation
  • Proficient in AC/DC drive setup and troubleshooting
  • Skilled in PID loop tuning and calibration
  • Basic networking knowledge
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Self-driven to learn new hardware/software platforms
  • Availability as needed to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation
  • Effective communicator and team player
  • Able to manage multiple projects and make timely decisions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in PLC design, programming, installation, and troubleshooting (Siemens Series 5/7 preferred)
  • Experience with Siemens Masterdrives and IBA PDA systems
  • Strong understanding of power distribution equipment
