Are you a seasoned Electrical Engineer with 20+ years of experience in commercial and light industrial design, with a desire to lead a team? We're looking for a Registered Professional Engineer with a strong background in utility service entrance design, power and lighting distribution for building systems, and integration of building automation, lighting controls, and communications infrastructure. In this role, you'll also support mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems with the design of electrical controls and power infrastructure, playing a key role in interdisciplinary collaboration and project success.

What You’ll Do
Engineering & Design:
- Oversee technical quality and consistency of electrical design deliverables across all projects.
- Establish and maintain department design standards, templates, and calculation procedures.
- Review and stamp project documents for accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
- Provide subject-matter expertise in sustainable design and energy efficiency strategies.
- Design electrical systems for commercial and light industrial facilities, including lighting, power, communications, and fire detection systems.
- Perform engineering calculations and prepare load letters, lighting layouts, and power distribution systems.
- Use AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam for design, redlining, and minor drafting.
- Size generators and work with utility companies on power requirements.
- Prepare technical specifications and equipment selections.
Project Coordination & Management:
- Lead electrical project planning, resource allocation, and workload balancing for the department.
- Collaborate with project managers and other discipline leads to develop integrated project schedules and deliverables.
- Contribute to strategic planning for department growth, staffing, and succession.
- Participate in company-wide initiatives such as QA/QC programs, technology adoption, and mentorship programs.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers and other internal teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Coordinate the work of designers, CAD staff, and technical personnel as it pertains to the electrical team.
- Support project milestones by estimating task hours and monitoring team progress.
- Assist with proposals, scheduling, and budget estimates.
- Take on leadership duties within the Electrical department, including mentoring junior engineers, supporting professional development, and helping shape team standards and workflows.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Participate in client meetings and respond to technical inquiries.
- Maintain vendor and supplier relationships; evaluate product data and coordinate selection.
- Provide oversight and mentorship to junior technical staff and support onboarding/training.
- Serve as the primary electrical contact for key clients; maintain strong, long-term relationships.
- Contribute to business development efforts by supporting proposals, client presentations, and interviews.
- Represent the firm and the electrical discipline at industry events and professional associations.
Compliance & Innovation:
- Champion innovation within the department by evaluating new tools, materials, and design approaches.
- Guide the team in applying electrification, decarbonization, and smart-building principles where applicable.
- Ensure electrical design integration with sustainability certifications (e.g., LEED, Living Building Challenge).
- Ensure designs meet NEC 2020, local agency standards, and applicable codes.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and tools, including lighting design software and generator sizing programs (e.g., CAT, Cummins).
- Contribute to continuous improvement of department practices and documentation.
What You Bring to the Team
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
Experience:
- 20+ years of experience in electrical engineering for commercial/light industrial markets, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with commercial buildings, industrial plants, airports, ferries, educational facilities, and similar.
- Demonstrated experience leading an electrical engineering team or department, including staff supervision, recruitment, and performance management.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously from concept through construction.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) & Bluebeam.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Familiar with fire alarm, lighting, and electrical power/control systems design.
- Understanding of Construction Standards Institute (CSI) specification format.

Work Environment & Perks
- Minimal travel required
- Hybrid Work Schedule: 40-44 hours per week. In office Monday and Tuesdays each week and two additional days of your choice each month, the other days can be remote.
