Overview:
The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking an Electrical Panel Builder to join our Virginia Beach headquarters office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and the downtown Norfolk Waterfront shopping district.

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
An Electrical Panel Builder independently constructs, wires, and tests industrial control panels from engineering schematics. This hands-on role involves component layout, point-to-point wiring, and system validation to operate heavy machinery, automation systems, or manufacturing equipment while ensuring strict adherence to industry safety standards (like NEC, UL 508, and IEC).
  • Schematic Interpretation: Read and interpret complex electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Panel Assembly: Perform physical layout, drill and tap back panels, and mount electromechanical components (e.g., relays, PLCs, circuit breakers, terminal blocks).
  • Wiring and Routing: Execute precise point-to-point wiring, stripping, crimping, and bundling of cables according to established routing standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect wiring terminations and perform continuity, resistance, and voltage testing using digital multimeters.
  • System Commissioning: Power on, validate circuits, and troubleshoot electrical or pneumatic hardware.
  • Documentation: Maintain redline mark-ups (“as-builts”) to provide feedback to engineering and ensure panels meet design specifications.

Qualifications:
Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED; technical certification or vocational training in industrial electricity or electrical engineering is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical assembly, industrial automation, or panel manufacturing.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of wire color codes, AWG, and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
  • Tool Proficiency: Mastery of hand tools (wire strippers, crimpers, screwdrivers, wrenches) and power/measurement tools (multimeters, drills, micrometers).
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance strongly preferred

Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
  • Must wear safety gear, such as goggles and gloves, hard hats, etc. as required.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/ Maritime) facility and/or ship.
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
