Electrical Project Engineer – Intermediate Level

Key Responsibilities:
Design Review & Coordination
-
Thoroughly study the IFC MEP design package to fully understand the electrical scope of work (LV switchgear, cabling, containment, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, fire alarm, BMS, etc.).

Ensure all electrical design drawings and specifications comply with local regulations (SEC/DEWA/ADMCC/ADDC, etc.), relevant standards (BS, IEC, NFPA), and client requirements.

Provide technical input to the BIM team during preparation of coordinated shop drawings and single-line diagrams for all electrical systems.

Perform detailed technical review of shop drawings and calculations prior to formal submission to the consultant.

Raise and follow up on Requests for Information (RFIs) for any design clarifications required.

Liaise with the MEP Manager and consultant to verify designs and coordinate changes arising from site conditions or MEP interfaces.
Submittals & Procurement Support

Prepare and review material and technical submittals (cables, panels, lighting fixtures, BMS components, etc.) in line with project specifications and coordinate approvals.

Review consultant comments on submittals/shop drawings and manage timely re-submissions.

Request BIM-extracted Material Take-Offs (MTOs) using Revit for electrical services, perform manual cross-checks, and validate accuracy.

Prepare Material Requisitions (MRs) and Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for submission to Procurement.

Coordinate with QA/QC and storekeeper to ensure only approved electrical materials and equipment are delivered to site.
Site Engineering & Supervision
-
Monitor on-site electrical installation works against approved shop drawings and the construction programme.
-
Provide technical direction and support to Construction Managers, Superintendents, and supervisors to ensure installations fully comply with design intent and project specifications.

Issue the latest approved shop drawings to site teams and retrieve superseded versions.

Escalate any engineering or installation issues that may affect schedule, safety, or quality to the MEP Manager.

Coordinate builders’ work requirements (openings, block-outs, supports) with the BIM and Construction teams.
Planning, Quality & Safety
-
Support the Planning & Controls team with electrical progress updates and subcontractor work programmes.
-
Coordinate with QA/QC for Material Inspection Requests (MIRs) and Work Inspection Requests (WIRs).
-
Ensure strict adherence to company and project HSE plans, approved RAMS, and safe electrical working practices (permit to work, LOTO, etc.).
-
Promote quality standards among subordinates and recommend training on new technologies or systems when introduced.

Assist QA/QC with damage reports for installed electrical services caused by other trades.
Commissioning & Handover

Interface with the Commissioning team, providing engineering input and coordinating vendor activities (switchgear, UPS, generators, BMS, EPMS, etc.).

Support integrated systems testing, cause & effect verification, and client/vendor training as required.

Assist with project handover activities (O&M manuals, spare parts, as-built drawings, labelling,etc.).

During project close-out, provide assistance to the BIM team with red-line mark-ups and 3D scanning for accurate As-Built drawings.
Experience & Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university.

Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience on construction projects (Data Centre or mission-critica experience highly preferred).

Strong technical knowledge of LV/MV systems, containment, lighting control, fire alarm,
-
BMS/EPMS, and standby power systems.
-
Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Revit (for coordination and MTO review).
-
Familiar with Middle East regulations and authorities (SEC, DEWA, ADDC, Civil Defence, etc.) is a strong advantage.
